recently bought a deck boat with a single axel trailer it has disk brakes operated off trailer hitch there operated off elect hookup for trailer i have never seen this system seems to work good has had any exp with this system thanks
I have hydraulic disc brakes on my boat trailer, but I have a 12 Ton rated utility trailer with electronic disc brakes on it. I adjust mine through a control box that sits in my truck. I turn the knob to tighten the tension and/or response time. Is this what you are talking about?
no the hitch itself has a hyd cylinder in it that is operated when brakes are applyed im use to the ones with control in cab it take a 5 wire flat plug not four has me puzzeled how they work but they do
Those sound like surge brakes. When you slow down the trailer pushes forward on the ball hitch. This activates the hyd cylinder and causes the trailer brakes to activate. The wiring harness is just like a 4 wire but the 5th wire provides a "lockout" for the surge brakes so you can back up with out the brakes activating.
I have surge brakes on my other boat and trailered it for 10 years with no braking issues. You always feel a thump as they activate but they always seemed to work fine. You just need to make sure they are bled properly so they work for you.
