Or, if you don't mind going slow, how about this 16' mini-tug:

Or an 18' pocket cruiser.

All these boats make outstanding fishing boats because they are all full walk around, and you have full protection from the elements.

Re: Help! Ideas to reduce wind on passenger?

i have no good suggestions for ya. it does seem that perhaps a different style boat might be the ticket.......i just got me a hardtop last fall. i can have the wind or not. i also plan on boating in colder weather with it.......hopefully an extended season......so far after this season 1 with it. i don't know how i ever got into jetski riding...... love my hardtop......show this to the wife and see what she thinks......the hardtop slides fwd. to the windshield. the center panel slides up to close + i got a back cover to go from the back of the hardtop to the deck. fully enclosed at that point.....

That is very cool! The problem is that if the boat has no windshield, a bimini would have the same effect...

Re: Help! Ideas to reduce wind on passenger?

You've said that twice now with absolutely no reason or justification. His passenger is the one affected by the wind. He has a windshield to sit behind, what he is attempting to do is solve the problem of wind beating up the passenger without selling his current boat. So your "advice" doesn't make any sense and the silly double posts aren't necessary.

Wow Shane you hit my thoughts exactly as to how I'm just trying to solve a small problem without having to sell my new boat and appreciate input from others.

Don't worry about the "drive by" type flamers that are even too weak to post where they are flaming from. I never bother to respond to flamers as it can only end ugly. I just ignore them in the various forums. These are just poor souls with way too much time on their hands.

I'd hate to sell this boat now especially as it sounds so good with that new Jensen marine radio you sold me. At a great price too! Like I said before, it's has great bass . . . so I didn't even have to go for a separate woofer from you as I almost did.

Many good ideas have been posted after your post, I'll try to address each one that responded.

How difficult would it be to build one yourself?
3 pieces of plywood & some stainless quick release fittings. Maybe some hinges to allow you to fold it up. Add an aftermarket windshield and you'd be set.

Good suggestion to do it myself. I just worry after investing 14k so far I don't want to make anything up that will make it a "Mickey Mouse" looking rig!

You could use one of these. :D

Funny how I thought about picking up exactly one of those you just pictured.

But she'd never wear that and if she did, she would look like Michael Myers from the movie Halloween

It also still leaves the wind hitting the rest of her.

I thought Mike Myers wore a hockey mask. :D

Re: Help! Ideas to reduce wind on passenger?

I don't see any photo of his boat? Is it there?

Anyways, MANY people would not enjoy a boat ride with no windshield, me included most of the time. That's why boats have them! When it's getting colder out even more so. I don't think this mean he has to sell his boat because his wife is normal.

Without a picture it's hard for me to think of any solution, but I'd assume you'd have to make something rather than buy an off-the-shelf solution. It wouldn't seem to hard to make a removable wind deflector type thing to pop on when needed.

I posted 3 pics to give people a better idea of what I was trying to do but they came out rather large and the Mod asked me to reduce them. I tried resizing them to 640 x 240 in Photobucket.com and they still load to this site full size. No one has responded yet on what I'm doing wrong as I asked about this in my earlier post.

Ya, I never thought of a wind deflector. Several post down they came up with a cool device that one can mount on the bow to deflect the wind but the pictures still show the seat behind a windshield and it looks to be an "expensive" add on.

Actually on the normal Wife thing. She has never complained and like the wind most of time until this past Sunday when the air temp dropped from about 75 to 55 and I was moving along the river to get back to the dock before dark.

It's more a me thing than anything else. I feel like such a cad since I have a cozy windshield and she gets hit with the wind plus whatever speed I happen to be going at which doubles the coldness hitting her.

She's only about 100 lbs, 24, blonde and hot. I tried to get her to sit on my lap on the way back because I felt sorry for her

Ooops, I think I just fell off in a dream . . . what was it I was just saying :D

Re: Help! Ideas to reduce wind on passenger?

A dodger would be the way to go, it ain't gonna be cheap though. Friend of mine had one made for his Lund and it's awesome.

It's like this:

That dodger though is mounted in front of a "windshield". But it's piquing my interest in a direction that I had not thought of.

This is why I asked for ideas!

Thx for finding that pic.

Nice idea here, but I do enjoy all the walk around room I have now while fishing. On another note . . . how did you resize your pic in photobucket. I tried and it says it saved the forum size which is what you have. But when I copy that 4th info link in photobucket and past it to my thread it comes out full size again even though I deleted my first pictures that I posted here??? Does Iboats somehow retain the old info?

The toy boats I have in my bath tub when I draw my bath are bigger than those two!

It's not bad as a suggestion, but it's still mounted in front of a windshield. If I already had a windshield on both sides, I wouldn't need a dodger.

Re: Help! Ideas to reduce wind on passenger?

I'll try and get a few pics posted as soon as I can figure out how to post the resized pics from photobucket.

And thanks to Ziggy who just helped me out on the options tab for resizing pics in photobucket . . . I never would have found that on my own. Two Thumbs up to Ya Ziggy!

Here are the pics, I hope these pics can allow the flow of some more ideas.

Re: Help! Ideas to reduce wind on passenger?

at the top of the photobucket page, after ya log in, is a options button, right above where ya browse for yer pic. it'll let ya set the initial size. when the pic's already there. there is an edit button above the pic. that'll let ya resize when ya click that one....

but I do enjoy all the walk around room I have now while fishing.
i don't fish much. but with the top slid fwd. it has quite a bit of room in the back. ya can also walk around the boat on the gunnels. the ft. deck is fun to lounge on too. i've been told that the hardtop will support a person too. i've sat on it. but not my full weight. if i break it, don't reckon another is ready available.

thunderoad. i found it on iboats classifieds. ya can search aristocraft nineteen and see what's out there. iboats has 2 right now + google it. most are in poor shape. but i've seen maybe 2 in the last year since i got mine that looked pretty respectable. both were blue......

This just gets more and more funny!!! Reminds me of when I am driving down the road and I see some hot chick in a Dodge Neon (or other similar POS car), the first thought that always goes through my head is that, she really needs to reevaluate her life because someone is not taking care of her properly! Same thing here, if she is as hot as you say she is, you need to buy a different boat, but my guess is that you are ok where you are at!

Re: Help! Ideas to reduce wind on passenger?

I agree with bekosh I think you could make something yourself that would do just enough to make it bareable for your wife. I might even check out some plastic fab shops if there are any near by. They can do amazing things with plastics these days, and you could remove for the winter. I cant see the photos, but matbe you could use heavy canvas for the lower section and like a clear side curtian for the windshield section. good heavy duty snaps close togather would hold, then you could remove it and roll it up when not in use. I made a cover for the lower section of the stern so passangers didn't have to look down into the bilge area. I'm no seamstress but I used marine vinyl and over cut it 2-3" all the way around then used a good fabric contact adhesive to make the edges then bought a snap kit from wally world and it actually turned out well. That cover takes full wind at 40mph and has never even thought about coming off. Might be worth a try....
