 I have a 1985 Susuki DT 65, starts and idles fine, jumps out of the hole with plenty of power then goes into limp mode , no alarms sounding , last season it would do the same but at high revs 5000 or so , had it back to dealer but he carn't seem to track it down.

Re: Limp mode

welcome to iboats :) ..... very strange that no alarm is sounding, if it goes into limp mode it would show on the tach straight away ..... you sure your tach is working properly?

Re: Limp mode

You sure you don't just have a fuel pump going out and not able to keep up with the fuel demand. I don't think the 1985 models had the slow mode. Just an over temp or low oil alarm.

Re: Limp mode

Thanks for your responses: The taco seems to be working fine , it doesn't have any warning lights on it , I have found a green wire next to the fuel pump that has been disconnected ,it could be the alarm wire as i remember the mechanic did this last year to try and isolate the problem...go figure:confused: When this first started and you tryed to run WOT it would cut back at 4800 rpm or so , just drop out back to 3000 rpm , I ended up taking the thing back as he couldn't find the problem , I just ran it below 4800 and it was fine , after a couple of outings I replaced the plugs and for some reason would run WOT but I noticed the problem had shifted to when you fist tryed to get going cold it would cut back to 3000 , if you turned it of and started it again it would run fine all day , now it wont , after many attempts it just drops back to what I have called limp mode after about 10 seconds , it still starts and idles OK..

frustrated Aussie.

Re: Limp mode

Hi all,

have found the problem, as simple as a sticky choke, there is a manual override lever on the choke linkage that was knocked and bent at some point, intermittently the lever would stop the choke from returning to the off position, it would seem the return spring was also weak and allowing the choke to stay open just enough to cause the problem. The up side is i now have a new fuel pump, oil flow sensor, water flow sensor and a heap more knowledge of how these things work. Thanks to all who gave help and i hope my solution may help others with similar systems.

cheers
BW.
