I have a 2001 225hp fuel injection Yahama. It lost power after running in choppy water. Took it to repair shop, he asked if red ring was off bottom of bulb. Red ring is about 2/3 of way up bulb. He said I picked up water off bottom of tank in choppy water. That this is common. He can't drain water for a few days and I want to go fishing now. He says water would need to be drained from (I think he said injectors) as well as the bulb. Could anyone tell me how to do this? Also how do I remove the water from the tank? Is it OK to put HEET in it or some type of fuel conditioner? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Bob

not knowing if this is a two or 4 stroke, you thoughtfully did NOT provide a model number, drain the VST drain and flush all engine fuel lines, replace the hull mounted water seperator.
then start the engine, this should have been done hours ago as the damage is occuring as we type.
let the engine run 10 min or so and drain the VST again.
DO NOT add any water removal snake oil, you will regret it.
EFI does not care what liquid is injected, it will inject a water/fuel mix until the engine quits.

Hi, I sent you an e-mail but failed to mention that it is a 2 stroke. My question was what is a VSTand where is it located? Thanks Bob

dont PM me, its rare I check them. depends on if its a 2 stroke or 4 stroke. the 2stroke is on the port side and a brass drain at the bottom. the 4 stroke is still on the port side and has a much smaller brass plug but its buried behind the airbox intake runners.
but not knowing what ya have other than its 225 HP and you suspect its an 01 thats about all I can say.
good luck and get that water out before major internal damage occurs.

Thanks for your help. Problem is I looked at it wrong. The red ring was setting on a ridge in the bulb about quarter inch from bottom. Drained the bulb - no water. Drained VST - no water. Replaced the hull mounted water seperator. Didn't appear to have water in it. Removed hose from bulb and pumped out some gas in glass container and didn't see any water so guess the trouble is something besides water. Still only runs slow at full throttle.

Right I am lost. Last motor was a 50hp in Missouri. I'm on Texas coast now. Checked motor Cover says OX66 Saltwater Series 2. Tag with serial number has a designation 62J

Re: 2001 225hp yamaha water in injectors

need a model number, its gonna start with an s,V or F. as you stated its 2 stroke its gonna be s or V.
they made a few versions and the ign/fuel systems were a bit different
at home a seriel number wont help me.
there is some basic stuff thats all the same, fuel pressure on the rail MUST maintain about 35PSI or it dont work. both banks must have spark, its possible to lose a bank on a 3.1L motor.
its time to break out the test equipment, ya either have it,buy it or take it to the dealer and pray.
