Re: 1999 Johnson J25RLEEN problems.

He used the same grommet and I'm pretty sure its leaking and not suppling enough water up. I told him that it should be still spraying water and he say "no... no.. see the water is coming out the exhaust. Everything is working good".

I'm just going to order a new water pump, install it myself and get this thing working once and for all....

I have sprayed air thru the water passages and everything is clear.

Everything is not working good. You should have plenty of water pressure at idle to make a solid tell-tale stream. Water pump kit should get you right as rain.

Re: 1999 Johnson J25RLEEN problems.

Replaced the pump. Took it out in the bay(saltwater) for a test run and it didn't overheat but at idle it's not a steady stream. It blows out air and water. Is that normal? Exhaust leak? When I had the LU out I hooked up a water hose to the tube to check for blocked passages it sprayed out very good thru the tale but I noticed a little bit of a dribble thru the exhaust hole. Is that normal? Checked spark plugs and top one looks pretty bad with white build up (pic attached). Are these signs of an exhaust leak? or a slight head gasket leak? The mechanic just replaced the head gasket. Should I re-torque them?

thanks for all the help guys.

BTW: The engine was running very rich due to the primer pump o-ring. And the top plug was dirty(outer ring) like the bottom one. I cleaned it before the pic.

Yes, you should retorque the heads. I would also be suspecting an exhaust gasket leak.

Now I need to find some o-ring for the primer/choke pump. Everywhere I call they got to special order and it wil take 7-14 days to get. Do you guys know of any online store that will stock these o-rings? Don't know the spec or else I would have tried a local o-ring shop.
