Re: Four Stroke Gaskets

What manual are you using? Are you using Yamaha Gasket Maker? Part number is 907-90740-01-00. Are you using Yamabond 5? Part number is ACC-YAMAB-ON-D5. I would look for a head that has not been repaired. Just out of curiosity what was the part number of the powerhead gasket set? Should be 67F-W0001-00-00. About $241.

Re: Four Stroke Gaskets

I didn't use any gasket maker, I just used the new gaskets. I have the correct gasket set. I am not going to get a new power head. I've replaced all o-rings and gaskets. I am using the seloc manual as well as the yamaha manual. I have not yet seen any differences between Q specs or the called-for oils, grease, or sealants.

It seems to me that you have seen a difference. Your motor is leaking. I like to do a job only once, the right way with the right parts and right sealants.

Re: Four Stroke Gaskets

Just thought that I'd give all you guys an update......

There's been a 99 F80 with a 20 in shaft that has only been run in freshwater sitting in the back of our local shop. I inquired about it and found out that it had the rod bearings fail on the #3 and that it had been sitting there for about a year and a half because the owner didn't want to spend 4 k to get a new power head bolted on to it, and just bought a new motor. I got the guy's number and gave him a call, he told me that I could have it.

I removed the power head from my F100 and bolted it on the midsection of the F80, applied a little yamabond to the gasket when I bolted it on, and rigged it on my boat. I've ran it for about 15 hours with no problems at all. I've got a working TT unit on it and the 20 in shaft fits perfect. I don't have it mounted up off of the transom like I did with the 25 in shaft. It was that simple. What a blessing! Now I have a whole bunch of spare parts from the F80 that look new. I'm thinking about rebuilding the F80 power head now and hopefully I can help get somebody else going.
