Re: warning horn location

I should be a little a small box located towards the top of the control box. It will be mounted to the side you can remove. It will have 2 wires going to it. If you look at it from outside of the control box it may have several small holes drilled into the cover of the control case, or it may be one hole. The horn itself is about the size of a home fire alarm horn. It's just a small metal diaphragm encased in a small box about 1 1/2" X 1 1/2".

Has the horn worked in the past, and now it doesn't? The reason I ask is that the location of the horn is pretty obvious (in my very limited experience). I'm wondering if your control box has one.

Re: warning horn location

Ive looked under dash it may have been removed at some time dont know. But I did find a purple wire and a black wire that may have been connected to something in the pass. Do you know what color the wires for the horn should be.

thanks

Re: warning horn location

I think the proper colors are purple and tan. Another common location for the horn is clipped onto the wire bundle between the remote console and the outboard. Sounds like you found the spot it should be though.

The tan wire will be in the wiring harness and will run from the cylinder head to your console. The purple wire from the ignition switch provides the positive voltage for the horn.

The small horns from radio shack will work OK for a while, but the newer, self-testing three-wire units are the best, though expensive.

You can also use the one shown here:
