I know OMC made both evinrude and johnson motors. Do parts lists show OMC part numbers? It appears they share parts. I have a 69 115 evinrude and have a chance to pick up a 69 johnson 85 hp parts motor which could yield a large number of parts for my 115.

Thanks for the input. I guess that's where the question came from, wanted be sure I could use the parts, so I looked at the brp site and the part numbers for what I would want appeared to be the same. Already have enough non-coast guard anchors.

To elaborate for others who my be reading this thread, it depends on the year and model. On the example given, the motors are the same, with different hoods, paint, and decals. And remote controls.

That was true through most of the late '50s until recent years.

Some parts will swap, powerheads, ignition sytems, carbs are all different. Cowls and pans will swap only as complete units. Midsections and lower units should interchange

85hp 92.6 cu in cd breaker point ignition, small carbs

115hp 96.1 cu in cd breakerless ignition, larger carbs

Oh-h-h. Sorry, I didn't catch the different horsepowers in the original question. I thought you were just asking about equal Johnson/Evinrude motors.

Good catch, jimmbo.

Re: evinrude vs johnson parts

Everybody knows that the Evinrudes were the good motors and the Evinrude parts are therefore superior.

Or was it the other way around?
