I have a 1982 90hp inline six , that runs fine with rectifier disconnected, I all ready replaced a switch box, plugs, and a rectifier. What readings should I have on the yellow stator wires both to ground and to each other, both resistance and voltage? Thanks

The yellow wire should be open to grd and .3 or more OHM yellow to yellow. If the engine does not run right with the alternater wires hooked up the rectifier is shorted and needs to be changed

Re: 90hp Stator

Since replacing the rectifier didn't cure the problem, the stator is likely shot.

Take resistance readings of the Hi and Low Speed stator windings, if they are out-of-spec you'll need to replace the stator. Get a good deal on a CDI-brand replacement at www.boatfix.com.

I've attached a table with stator resistance values; also check this link for more info on troubleshooting Merc ADI systems:

Re: 90hp Stator

Thanks fo rthe info, I have .8 ohms Yellow to Yellow and Yellow to ground on both are 197 ohms. The stator red and blue windings are in spec. I guess I need a new stator, The Battery Charge coils must be shot. Now time to find a fly wheel puller!! Thanks
