I went to look at a used boat to work on for a winter project last night. The used boat has an 84 Mercury 150 Black max outboard on a small boat. The boat owner stated the boat did 65 mph but that he almost had thru-hull exhaust installed for the outboard because he had heard a boat with thru-hull exhaust performed better. I didn't ask him how he planned to channel the exhaust from the prop back into the boat and then through the hull.

Awesome, ask him if he got the high performance electrons installed on his starting battery! If he did you should jump all over that boat. Speaking of performance I think I'll change the air in my pontoons this year when I winterize.

Re: Boat owner

Did it have a new kinibler pin, I always check that when buying a new boat. That reminds me I need to change my blinker fluid in my truck today.

Re: Boat owner

There is no way in hell he will be able to install thru-hull exhaust on that outboard without first upgrading the jackson circuits and installing a titanium finnigan pin! ;)

Good Point, wow, I never thought about installing a finnagin pin, I hope he sees this thread or he'll be in a world of hurt.

I hope he buys the correct muffler bearings, the wrong ones could spell disaster. If they require a left handed screw driver to install then he is on the right path. :)

When installing thru hull exhaust, it increases tension on the carberator belt. Make sure he replaces the standard belt with a high tension carberator belt.

BTW, i blew a high compression tail light gasket on my trailor yesterday. Anyone have an extra i can borrow:cool:

Re: Boat owner

he better ensure the di-lithium crystals are in phase and that the flux capacitor is compatible with the new titanium finnegan pin before tru-hulling the exhaust. he might also want to invest in a catalytic converter and a CO2 scrubber, can't ever have too much fresh air.

Re: Boat owner

You guys are a riot. I did end up buying the boat and don't plan on trying to install thru-hull exhaust as it sounds way to complicated(hah hah). Here's my project for the winter so hopefully I can sell it next spring.

Looks like a fun little boat. Dont sell it, buy you a 225 outboard for it and have some fun!

Re: Boat owner

I'd like to but one boat is enough. I've had my fun with a Baja that topped out at 65mph, so I'm really not interested in going that speed or faster in this boat.

Great Engine....

I got one on a 17.5 ft carrera and I can promise you to hold on when you got WOT.

I did about 70 mph in mine over the weekend:D
