I just put manifolds, risers and rebuilt the drive unit for the fuel/raw water pump on my 7.4 liter wellcraft 26 excel. The engine compartment has iron particles everywhere and the gear lube spilled from the drive unit into the bilge. The iron dust is from cutting the exhaust manifolds. The dust is now starting to rust and staining my bilge area. I have never given it a second thought to pressurewashing my cars engine but this is a whole different animal. Would you spray degreaser then hose your engine and bilge area or just wipe the engine good and scrub the bilge area w/ simple green. I dont want more trouble than I already have so... I am asking the pro's.

What would you do?

Thanks Steve.

it's basicly the same engine as the car. hopefully it's out of the water, and has a drain plug.

I'd just use the foam engine bath stuff in a can unless your engines super groady. Give it a rinse after it sets a spell the wet vac any standing water with the vac attachment. Your wiring shouldnt be affected. After all it's a boat it's supposed to get wet.. Seriously wire should be tinned so shouldnt pose a problem.

I've had good luck removing rust and tough stains from gelcoat with "The Works" bathroom cleaner. It removes lime and rust easily and doesnt hurt the gel coat.

maybe be a shade causious with that idea. granted yer gonna have the engine compartment open. but fuel vapors might still be present. fuel vapors and wet vacs can go boom........

I just use simple green or similar stuff to wash down engine rooms and stuff.
