Four F16's scheduled to do a fly by before the Clemson Virginia Tech game, flew by the house 3 times prior to the game. I swear you could feel it, and read the numbers as they flew by. If that doesn't fill you with American pride, and make your hair stand on end, you don't have a pulse. Way to cool!!!

It is way cool. I had two fighter planes fly over me once wile i was fixing a pick up in the bush. Your right the sound was incredible. They could of been only about 100 feet above me.

Impressive it is,I'll grant you that.
I mostly remember them as being very ,very loud, and mostly in the middle of the night, in the canyon below my house.

Re: Aaaaamazing.........

They are amazing. For 5 years now I have been working less than a mile from an Air Force runway, straight line out over the building. We primarily get the F-16, C-103's and KC-135's but are going to see the A-10's from Battle Creek,MI relocated to this side of the state. The KC-135 unit is being redeployed to Florida and I believe some of the F-16's are leaving as well.

The noise is sometimes obnoxious but then to see them doing maneuvers and realize the level of expertise, in both the machine and the pilots, will leave you in awe. The bi-annual air shows are a treat as well. The first year I was there the Blue Angels were part of the program and buzzed so low items were vibrating off of shelves.

That reminds me of an article I saw in the paper many years ago. It seems the Blue Angels were involved in an air show in Victoria, British Columbia. At some point, one was a bit behind and throttled up to catch up. In doing so, he inadvertently broke the sound barrier and did $3 million worth of glass damage.

There are few technical things ever created/invented by man that are as impressive has a full house jet going by.
You're right...it makes the hair on the back of your neck stand on end.
Tell me what man would not want to behind the controls of that and spooling up that throttle?
They probably had to redesign the shape of the fighter helmets to handle the grin space needed on either side of your head.

Ditto to BP.

How'd you like to be in a trench in the Iraq desert with those things flying over you day and night shooting at anything that moves and much that does not.

Be pretty frightful.

I had some F-15/18's? make a low pass over our car, in a parking lot, outside an airshow a few years back. It was awesome. If they had been gunning for me I think I'da died of a heart attack.

I got a backseat flight in an F-18 once. Those things are not jets, they are rockets that you just steer! Just crazy.

Our subdivision, in particular my uncles house, is directly lined up with the main runway at our local airport, on about a 1 mile final. To hear the blues spool up and then fly over at about 200 feet and 450knots isn't something you can describe.

The same sound can be said for the falcons.

The F16s stayed up very high because they can easily be destroyed with a simple shoulder fired heat seeking SAM.The only thing that protected them from SAMs was a very low tech flare dropping system that dumped flares every few seconds in an attempt to fool the heat seeking missiles.

Years ago in Liberal Ks, I stood out in my front yard (1 mile from the airport) to watch the Thunderbirds fly in for an air show. They all flew directly over my head at less than 100ft to make thier spectacular entrance.

One of the most memerable days of my life.

Back in the mid 90's I worked at NAS Pensacola, FL, the main training site for the Blue Angels. Every Tuesday morning at 0800 you would hear the Blues spooling up and taking to the skies above the base to practice their incredible routines. I never lost the sense of amazement at watching them perform. I still get a lump in my throat just thinking about their displays of U.S. air superiority.

I envy you!

We had an air show here a while back at our local airport. I didn't know the F16's were to make an appearance that day. We were watching the A-10's demonstrate some tank killing approaches when I heard some of the staff say and point "ok here they come". I saw 2 jets just over the horizon flying toward us very low. They seemed silent as they reached us, but the very moment they passed the sound was incredibly loud and powerful. I was awestruck. They circled back and came at us again, then when they reached the center of the airfield they went straight up. I counted 8 Mississippi's and they were no longer visible. There wasn't a cloud in the sky.

If you haven't seen those things in person you really can't understand how fast and powerful they are. If only they were allowed to blow stuff up in the shows...

Go spend 2 years on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. You get to see an air show every day and if you are unlucky enough you might get to be in the middle of a plane crash or two along the way. I don't have a big PTSD problem but I allways have to stop and find it when I hear any kind of plane or chopper. As most VETS do.....ANIMAL :D
