94 yam 40 hp 2 stroke not starting

Hey Guys,
Ever turn your key and just here your starter relay make a one click noise..
Should I run out and replace the relay and the starter, or hopefully it is something else less expensive..any thoughts woul be very helpfull

check all conections and make them shiny clean 99% of starter problems are bad connections

This is a very common symptom, tnk.

The most common cause is a poor connection in the starter high current circuit.

Go to the Engine FAQs and do the troubleshooting in "Outboard won't start".

Most likely suspect: Corrosion where the battery ground cable bolts to the engine block.

Thanks all for responding so quickly, and of course its pouring in south florida today as soon as it lets up I will get the old wire brush out and clean everything, I charged my battery for about 12 hours now..so hopefully all goes well
