cant control at top speed

i have 16 FT V HULL WITH A 35 HP MOTOR I JUST TRYED THE MOTOR OUT TODAY AND AT TOP SPEED I CANT CONTROL THE STEERING ITS ALL OVER THE PLACE WHATS GOING ON THERES A LITTLE PLAY IN MY STEERING BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE MOTOR IM WONDERING IF THATS IT ANY IDEAS?

If there is slack in the steering that's very likely the reason you have a steering issue. Ensure the nut is tight where the cable enters the tilt tube on the engine.

I Think The Motor Was Going Back And Forth As I Was Trying To Control It Ill Have To Snug It All Up And Try Again Ty

what year motor, type of steering, old cable pulley?

ita a 89 evinrude 35 hp had the old pulleys still in there but theres a single black cable now also theres three holes on the motor i hooked the cable to the middle hole is there suspose to be a bracket there?

it should be connect similar to this, thru the tilt tube, then with a connecting arm back to the motor. you have to have the correct connecting arm for the motor.

oh me i have a mess looks nothing like that i have the end of the rod going straight to the motor and a bolt holding the threaded part to the transome someone else had it rigged i think the cable is to short to connect like yours thanks for the pick i see now

Sounds very dangerous!! It must go through the tilt tube.

i dont have any idea never had a boat this was the way it was when i got it didnt think it was a big deal why is it dangerous also i dont have tilt or trim on this boat i just let the motor all the way down is this correct? do i have to have bolts through the motor into the transome
