Hi, I just ordered a new fuel pump filter for my 1997 3.0 LX Mercruiser and received a paper element type filter. The old one was of a ceramic type material. The Seloc manual looks like (not sure, since it's not that clear in the book) I'm supposed to install the filter with the open end of the filter down. It makes sense to me that the open end of the filter should be UP. Can anybody help me? What happens if I install it upside down, will it cut out at high speeds? Thanks!

The hole goes UP

You need to pick the correct gasket

(there were two brands of pumps over the years )

The kit comes with TWO gaskets match it up with the OLD one

The spring in the bottom of the pump holds the filter in place against the gasket

You need to be a bit carefull about lining up all the parts

Thanks a lot for the response!
The old gasket stayed stuck onto the pump body so I just left it alone and didn't replace it. I hope that's OK?

You should REALLY REALLY change the gasket they are a one shot deal and with the fuel system it is just NOT worth risking a leak

Hi,
I have a Bayliner 175 with a Mercruiser 3.0L, I recently just changed the fuel filter aswell and broke the fuel line near the carburetor. I then wanted to take the whol fuel line off so I could bring it in to the shop with me but it broke again, the nuts kept on getting stuck, any tips? I'll have to take it in for repair now. :(
