Google "smart car crash test". Pretty impressive.

I was in the Netherlands last month, they are all over the place there. I saw one backed in between two parallel parked cars and there was plenty of room for all three.

Don't think they'd pull a boat too well though.

We wouldn't need smart cars if we didn't have sooooo many dumb azz drivers. That said, they look as if they would be great little city runners. Not sure I'd want to do a road trip in one though.

Waiting for the pickup model, kind of like the Zap electric. I can't believe the sticker price on them.

Yea, there is a guy here that has a bunch of them. I ask about one and he said that he could not get titles to them so he was selling off road only.

I can see why. They are not EPA or NHTSA compliant.

They could be nice for a camp or farm.

I can see some poor guy that buys the faux John Deere model and tries to get parts from his Deere dealer.

That Roadster looks like just the thing I need to tow behind my Coach (see Tow vehicles of the day).
Bet it's not cheap though.

Yea, that is who buys most of them. People with farms. They have one that is a scissor style bed that is neat.

...in our city/area we are not under a lot of commuter or parking pressure so I think these are bought primarily as 'green statements'. They certainly are not giving them away for how much car you get. You have to be doing a huge amount of consistent commuter driving to make these pay off.
The one in the first photo is a couple years old, used and they are asking something in the neighbourhood of $17k for it.
Regardless, they are basically the right idea for simple transportation. I need to see some more versions tho' and definitely some better pricing.

Re: Smart Cars...US bound soon?

Any of you folks on the US side heard of or seen the 'Smart Cars' yet? I heard they will soon be importing them into the US (if they aren't already).
They are all over the place up here...kind of interesting and the butt of many jokes. That said, they get seriously good mileage and I believe they are a Mercedes product. This is one of many local ones.....up for sale down the street.
So...what do you think?.....is it the car of your dreams yet?
(I'll pass thanks)
The only one I've seen around here (Iowa) looks a lot like the pic, i.e. sitting out by the road with a for sale sign on it.

Ezrider_92356; I had an I think 85' Daihatsu. It was a pretty good little car until my son totaled it before he went in the navy.

Smart cars have an excellent crash rating. Youtube has a great video of one hitting a concrete barrier at 70mph. The doors still open. Try that with an American made car.
The scary part to me is getting rear ended.
Check out how close your head is to the back window when you get in one.
