1981 9.9 Johnson impeller replacement

Ok heres the story. I have a 79 yr old neighbor whose fishing motor quit pumping water and needs a new impeller. He said he had to quit fishing for a while till he could save up for the repair. I think the fish he catches is a lot of his diet. I am going to look at it for him. I always change my own anyway, but always have a manual to look at if needed. At this time his buying a manual isn't possible. My question. Is there anything unusual about this motor or any special tools needed? I really want to help him but don't want to create a bigger problem. Any input would be greatly appreciated. by me and I sure by him

If you've done an impeller before, this one's no different. Remember, the shift linkage disconnects between the LU and the exhaust housing on this one.

I hope when Im older I have a neighbour like you, you're a heck of a guy! Your basic tool kit is all you will need, along with some gasket sealing compound and some oil or what have you for the impeller fins. Also make sure it's not pumping water because of the impeller and not a water blockage to the power head.

Maybe take him out fishing in YOUR boat.

Could be he isn't confident going out on his own any more.We all (hopefully) will get there and thank someone as well.

Thanks to all and we do fish together some. when I can pry my son in law out of the boat. I pray for the day he finally get his own boat. I dont think my neighbors getting to old to go it alone since he is more active than I am. Come to think of it maybe Iam the one thats s l o w ing down Thanks again
