Hi All,

Attached are a few pictures of a boat I am looking at, not being an expert, what are your thoughts on this plate over the transom? Is it normal, is it good, could it be covering up something ugly? Overall the boats in good shape, newer 150HP Johnson. I would not think someone would put an 8000.00 plus motor on a boat with a bad transom.

Thanks

That is definetely not a good sign. Do this.

Run the engine tilt all the way up.

Grab the engine by the skeg (fin below prop) and push/pull -up/down as hard as you can.

The transom should not flex AT ALL. If it does, look elsewhere or use that information as a bargaining tool.

Yep, looks like somebody trying to distribute the load across a soggy transom.
