I have coverted an old Sabot into a row boat for fishing around in the hardor.
I am ready to buy an outboard for it and I'm not sure what size to get. As most of you know, Sabots ride low, so I know I will need a short shaft.

i would say 3 or 4 max, short shaft. it doesn't have much of a transom to support a motor.

I agree with a 3hp. I have modified the transom on it. I put a 4hp merc 1969 on it and it seemed a little too heavy.
Thanks all

I'd go with a 175hp. Ok, so you only get one run in it...but what a run it would be.
Seriously....something less than 5hp for sure on a sabot. They just are not designed as powerboats and they are pretty small. As well, from what I recall they didn't have particularly tough hulls.

3hp max is my opinion. 2hp Yamaha should push it O.K.
However if you ask some of the more daring folk out here they will most likely suggest twin 150hp Yamaha's !!!! LOL

LOL, thanks guys. I think for now I'll use my 3.2hp champion on it, but when I get ready to retire the thing I'm strappin on a big dawg and takin her out with a blaze of glory. Hee Haw

If you do that then be sure to put some big floats on the outboard !!!! LOL
