Hard to say. They could have been on auto pilot and you just happened to be close to the route.

SFB (Sh*t For Brains) besides being dangerous, stupid, idiotic, moronic and a host of other adjectives. Get his registration info and report him. A few blasts from a loud horn might get his attention.

Maybe the boater knew someone with a similar vessel and thought it may be you. The post did not state the boat that came close was cruising and creating a wake, just that the person came close.

Fantasy Fest is just a couple of weeks away; better get busy recruiting!

Unfortunately, jack@$$es know no boundaries; I've been diving offshore on more than one occasion and come up to find boats way too close even though there is a diver down flag flying on my vessel. Plenty of ocean for the other boat, just attracted like insects to a light I guess.

Same thing when I am surf fishing.
There I am surf fishing and almost as far as the eye can see in either direction up or down the beach there is no one else fishing. Nor even on the beach, just me.

Then some dumbass in a boat has to come and anchor about 100 feet from shore right in front of me.

Same thing happens to pier fishermen. There is only one public pier for miles, yet some fishermen in boats have to fish within 100 feet of the pier.

Boggles the mind.

Re: why so close???

that truly is odd. i never did and still dont understand it.
i see it all the time and it p***es me off!
my girl and i are floating in the middle of an elbow on a long lake, way out of the main traffic lanes, and sure enough, WOT right towards us within 50 feet!!!
then the idiots wave!!! in the mean time were bobbing in thier wake!
then they alter course! they didnt have to come any where near us.
it happens every day on a lake. about 10 times a day!!!
i still dont under stand it.
we've even been caught makin whoopie when they came with in 30 feet! (lake is a mile and a half wide) (no one could see us from far away)
must be some kind of psycological thing!

Same here......same lake even..out fishing at 5a.m. on a beautiful summers morning opposite Kelowna Yacht club, not another soul out on a glass still 80 mile lake. I look up to see a ski boat approaching.

Unbelievably, this dolt passes me by not even 50 ft, waving and yahooooing like I'm his long lost buddy. I saluted him back, he holds his hands up and shrugs his shoulders...Well gee, maybe I hurt his feelings...do ya think ?

What the heck makes them do this....30 kazillion acres of water and they just hafta come 6 miles outta their way to get in your face.????

maybe you were on or close to a reef or wreck they were trying to get at or maybe they thought you were chumming and wanted to pull something out of your slick.. While I was trolling I have had people turn just to cross my spread and while anchored I have had idiots setup in my slick 100' back many times..Let you chum them up and then try to jump in and grab a few..Some people need a smack in the head...

Re: why so close???

Last summer I was drifting along at the Lake Houston Dam and a Harris County Sherriff in his CC blasted a donut at "at least" 20mph around my 29ft. pontoon boat. My boat lurched so bad it caused my ladder to fall off. My wife jumped in to retrieve it, but the current was bad and she couldn't swim fast enough. Like an idiot I jumped in to help her swim with it and realized that I couldn't keep up with the current either. Luck had it that a friend was still on board. I saw him taking his shirt off like he was going to jump in and I yelled "DO NOT JUMP IN, START THE BOAT". He was able to drive upwind of us and pick us up. THANK GOD. I thought we were going to drown. MAN that Pi&^%ed me off. SO don't jump in without a life jacket and NEVER jump in if your the last one on the boat. Go figure a Sherriff should know better that to come so close so fast. Happy safe boating this season!!!!!!!

Re: why so close???

I think a lot of it is new boaters that have never been taught the rules of the road. Most new boaters just seem to have the need for other people to see them. "look at me" I have a boat. A lot of them don't know the wake they put out. It is just a lot of not knowing. The ones that have been around for a wile are the ones that like being sort of alone. Take the skiers. They just feel like they have to let someone know that they can ski. I use to have a PWC, my son-in-law and I bought them the same time. He had never been on the water before. I explained lots of the do's and don'ts he is a very curious boater now. Lots of people don't get the privilege of being taught right and wrong with boating. When I had my PWC I also had a 20ft pontoon. It was funny I would take the pontoon and go along the lake shore and the fishermen would wave, I would drive the PWC the same distance and same seed from the shore line and the fishermen would wave but just with one finger. Amazing the difference that made.

Re: why so close???

Perhaps for the same reason as the idoits who have to park next to you even thought you parked at the far end of the lot with no one around you for hundreds of feet.

Re: why so close???

It is the same reason. Bovine instincts- just don't know.

Grocery store- early am, boat on trailer behind car, parking lot 1/3 full. Head-in parking only. So I park far away from the door across three spaces. Plenty of room around me. Come back out 15 minutes later, and I have cars in front of my car and behind my car! Huh?!

Parking lot is now less full than when I went in to the store, but I got 4 or 5 cars parked around mine. Had to be really creative to drive out of the space.

Re: why so close???

Not to change the subject in this thread, but had a corvette for 16 years and if i would go someplace where there were alot of people and cars around i would park my car way away from everything and everybody.Sure enough when i would get back to my car somebody, usually more than one would be parked so close i could barely open the doors to get in my car.Point being as said in this thread there is more than enough room for everybody why do people have to be so inconsiderate to others.....?????Just don't get it i geuss....Thank god most people in this forum do....

this would be my guess or if you are on a landmark like a wreck or a spring hole, you have to understand guys will bunch up, if everyone's cool it will work. I don't like guys cutting thru my chum slick but it happens.
