Was looking on the internet for a safety chain to connect the boat to the trailer. I found this 15" 3/16 chain on a lot of boating sites but have no idea what its weight rating would be? The boat Ive got has a dry weight of about 3000 ibs. Anyone know the weight rating of this or have a link to buy a safety chain?

Thanks

Don't waste your $$ on pre made boat stuff. Go to home depot, and buy you some SS chain. It has the weight rating written on the shelf. Top it off with a strong enough SS hook, and you are good to go. You could go the route of regular steel, and paint it, but that doesn't keep that "shiny" look so many folks love.

What bassboy said; don't waste your money on a pre-made one. Go to any big box (Home Depot, Lowes, etc) and get either a good stainless steel or galvanized steel chain. One thing I would say is, the end that connects to the boat, use a shackle on that side and the use a hook on the other. Your other option is to use a good heavy duty cable with shackle and hook.

Use a strap with a good hook.
Seat belts will hold anything and never wear out.
That is what I have always used.
Just go to the junkyard and cut you a piece off of any wrecked car.
Ask first, but they won't mind.
They also sell them on the net if you want to buy one.

Best tie down for the bow is a turnbuckle. A 3/8" or 1/2" would hold that boat in a rollover.

I put a chain with a turnbuckle bow hold down on my boat after I saw how easily the bow could come loose in even a minor bump. Champion Trailers has a glavanized kit in their catalog, top left of page 21. You can download the catalog.

I don't trust chains either. Here's a similar turnbuckle solution just a bit further up the post.
