I know this is borderline prop section, but I have a 1978 85 H.P. Evinrude, and can't find the torque spec in my manual for the prop nut. Thanks for any help. Also if anyone knows where it's located in the original manual, please tell me. What is the easiest and safest way to hold the prop from turning while torquing the nut without damaging anything?

I like to use a prop wrench, but they are not necessary. Tighten it until the hole for the cotter pin is blocked by the nut, then back it off so that you can insert the cotter pin. There will be a torque chart at the beginning of your manual, but under "Prop" it will just read "Spline".

My manual does not show that either. Maybe I should post this in the prop section. I just don't want to over tighten the nut but want to make sure it's tight enough. Thanks for the reply.
