i have a 1984 70 hp evinrude with power tilt/trim
it is leaking (rather badly) from the emergency release screw on
the side of the unit.....it looks as if there is a snap ring holding an
oring and the screw with the valve on it there.....
do you have to remove the motor to remove the power t/t uint
or is there a better way... and what size o ring goes under the snap ring...

Re: tell me it ain't so

Welcome to iboats. If it is tight, the o ring is leaking. No need to remove the unit to change this. If you do need to ever remove the unit, no, you do not need to first remove the motor. If your TNT unit will not fit out between the transom brackets, just remove the port one, slide it to the left, disconnect the steering cable, then slide the TNT unit out. After you change the o ring, rest the motor fully up on the trail locks, top up the fluid, cycle the unit a few times, it is self bleeding, then top it up again, continue doing this until it is full. Good luck.

Re: tell me it ain't so

Keep the port bracket there, just slide to the left, and support it with a 4 by 4 in between the brackets and the leg of the motor. Some guys hook it up to a motor crane or to a tree, but I have never had a problem with the block of wood.
