i live in northdakota probably the coldest state in the lower 48 ill be boating till everything freezes over, dress in layers and keep some dry clothes in plastic bags

Could be worse, you could be me. Just bought an 08 Glastron GT and won't even be able to touch it till april next year, (short season here in Winnipeg).

Same here. Are you going to take it over the winter?

I am going to pick mine up in around 2 weeks or so, and I am putting it in the garage so I can sit in it.

However, the fun part is I am going to be applying some graphics etc to it and do some other customizations over that time.

No, I'm going to have the dealer hold on to it, that way he can prep it for spring when I pick it up and there is no cost. I would like to have it in the garage so I could sit in it and make boat noises, (trust me, I would make the noises) but we only have a double garage and when it's -40 out I like to park inside.

I'm a year round camper, spent many a cold night up on the mountain, in a tent in the snow, I go camping at least twice a month, year round, now that I have a boat, it's going with me on those trips, if I can get it down the ramp, you'll find me in the water, you just gotta be tuff, I'll be putting some camping gear in my boat, and finding new places to spend the night

My boats are still in the water, and I live on Cape Cod. Well they are my father's boats, I'm only 17 but I am a very good outboard mechanic. The winter is nice because it allows you to do all the maintenance you need and also allows time for a good winter project. This year, I am redoing an old 22 foot Formula Thunderbird, inside and out. Then I am re-powering it with a 1999 Johnson 250 Ocean Pro. It is a school project, I try doing at least one boat a year. A project like this makes me love the off season, because when you use the boat when the season starts, it is a quite rewarding feeling, knowing you pulled off a big job!

The last time I put my boat in last year, it slid about 30 feet before it broke through the ice.

during the winter, I'll store the starcraft, and take the little Klamath out, that's pretty much going to be my winter boat, mainly because of the size, something small and easy to deal with, I'm already sizing it up for the camping gear, as soon as the inside is finished, I'll be off on a weekend outing with it, probably take it down to the Oregon coast

Very nice! My last really freezing experience was Mt Washington about 6 years ago. Got down to around zero for 3 of the nights, and had a small snow squall on the mid night.

Talk about serene. Beautiful to watch it fall by the fire, and wake up the next day to an amazing sight.

Yeah, gonna be cool and gray for awhile...so what..I get REAL bored doing the same thing, day in, day out. All 3 real boats pickled for the season, rowboat and a kicker always ready, all but one bike covered. Just picked up a great little old Briggs 5hp horizantal shaft. Soon after the Holiday thing, head to the local weld shop in town and grab some steel, look for 4 wheels, build a GoKart..

What a difference a week makes! 1 1/2 weeks ago (10/21) it was 80 degrees in W Michigan ... went out on the Big Lake with a friend who dove in just so he could say he swam in Lake Michigan on Ocotber 21. (I heard the water temp was 60 - 65). Then the weather changed, and now it's 50 degrees.

Born in Iowa, grew up in Minnesota, living in Michgan for many years. I've joked that I can't stand winter but the 2 1/2 weeks of summer more than make up for it.

I took our boat in for some engine problems before Labor Day and still don't have it back. I had no idea it would take this long. I'm afraid I'm going to be running Stabil through the fuel system and fogging the engine in a late November sleet storm.

I totally agree. I live 1hr north of Panama City and i went out to the upper portions of Lake Seminol Sat. and had a great day of bream fishing. Soon I'll be night fishing for Crappie!

Not giving up yet. Went bass fishin' yesterday 30 miles north of Minneapolis. My boat was the fastest (only) boat on the lake.

Caught a few, enjoyed the time with my kid.

Getting some sign that I should retire for the usualy winter maintenance. Ripped the pull off the trolling motor, and had a reel fall apart in my hand.

The forecast for this weekend here in the PNW is mostly sunny with the highs in the low 60's, I'll be boating this weekend, going to try out that little 12 footer, and see if it actually floats

Wow! did not expect this thread to get so long!

The only reason I put mine away this soon was 1) it went below freezing a few times already 2) Hate cleaning the hull and winterizing with parka and gloves on! Also, not many places to go boating here in mid eastern Iowa. (What the locals call lakes are only dammed rivers!) - The only 'lake' I found is by the Nucular power plant. ( bet that water dont freeze, and it may have some 3 eyed fish!) Perhaps I should move south ( At lease you get warnings when a huricane is comming!)

The fish near the hot water outlet of that nuke are probably the biggest, healthiest, best fed fish in the river.

And no, they don't glow in the dark.
