help harmonic balancer 1998 7.4mpi won't come off

i have a sea ray 370 1998 twin 7.4 mpi v drives...i have oil spinning off the harmonic balancer.i'm pretty sure it is the foward crankshaft seal in the timing chain cover. i am using a matco balancer puller tool...the balancer started to come off then stopped......i am at the point where i am standing on the breaker bar and it is just bearly moving.i'm afraid something is about to break.....help me ps.....the engine was turning when i started to turn the puller bolt so i placed a gorilla bar into one of the spacers in the balancer and locked it in position against the stringer

sounds like you have it in a bind......one side is farther out than the other. release the pressure and try to tap it straight.

uhmm... what you need is a HARMONIC BALANCER PULLER.... not a prybar!!!!!

It sounds like there may have been a bit of rust on the shaft contact area and is now galling as it's being pulled off. I'd try to dribble some oil on it, let it sit a while to seep in. (The back may be oily already from the leak?).

Tighten the bolt and push it back on, pay attention to the number of turns/degrees it takes. More oil, let it seep, pull it again. Did it come off any farther? You may have to repeat several times.

I don't know what a matco balancer puller looks like. But if it can be used as a installer also I'd push the balancer back on and spray penetrating oil on it and end of crank and let sit for about a day and try again. And if uses bolt to hold away from face of balancer make sure they are even.

Just a FYI. My 1986 454's balancer is a mother to get off and on. Never had one that tight before.
