I have a 21 ft. Carolina Skiff with a 150hp Johnson, the previous owner had a 15 X 17 prop on it as he used the boat for towing skiers and tubers and wanted it to get out of the hole quickly, apparently he must have hit bottom with it a few times as it was dinged pretty good and cavitates at low speeds, he included what I think may be the stock prop which is a 14.5 x 21 I put it on this weekend and haven't had it out yet, can anybody confirm that this is the stock size and what can I expect. Thanks-Kurt

Re: Prop question, what else?

There simply is no "stock size" when it comes to propellers. The propeller that allows the engine to operate in it's recommended wide open throttle RPM band with an average load is the correct prop. Since engine manufacturers have no idea what boat an engine will be mounted on (runabout, pontoon, barge, flat bottom, etc.) they don't even supply a prop. The dealer usually installs what they think is best for that application. Put the prop on, run it at wide open throttle, properly trimmed and see what you have for rpm and speed. We will help from there.
