outdrive =gear?

I have an 83 pr alpa merc 260 ut drive just put it back on after and engine R and R and before I crank it It is in neutral and the is a little tiny it of rubbing or clicking like is about to go in to gear. How would I adjust so this wont happen? I have a wire coming off the shift cable assemble where does this attach of what is it ?

Adjust it per the manual.
