Is it just me or are there more new members lately that abandon their original threads in the John/Rude and other repair forums and never return to follow up on their original problem.:cool:Makes a guy feel like not investing as much time assisting if we never get feedback on the issue. It does me, anyway.

Re: Repair forum deserters

I haven't noticed an increase lately because I haven't been in there much but I always find it disappointing when they don't follow up. Of course, I find it equally disappointing when I do follow up and it goes unnoticed.

I feel your pain. Just yesterday a whole thread disappeared right here in DC.

yes it seems to be true. but i have also noticed that others are copying and pasteing my old references, and post. which atleast shows someone thinks my advice is worth repeating. i don't mind this as it cuts my time on the forum.

Re: Repair forum deserters

Lots of folk come here for help.
They get it but forget to let people know that it was right or wrong and that inturn does not help other new folks that might have the same problem but do not see what the outcome was of the other poster's question and that is why you get duplicate questions about the same problem at times.

Some people need help with a problem, and goto many different sources. They don't realize the wealth of "friendship" (for lack of a better word) that can be found here.

I sure have appreciated the information that you guys provide when I am working on my Mercruiser engine and stuff. After poking around here I realized there was more here than a 'quick fix' so I stuck around, even with people like JB and SBN being moderators :D (thats a joke fellas!)

I rember the first time I asked for help in the J/E forum. Tashasdaddy was the first one to respond. I had a '57 Gale 25hp. I sure did give thanks, and to Frank(FR) too.

Re: Repair forum deserters

As long as I have been around here there have been a lot of "hit and run" posters who get their problem of the moment solved and go away, usually without feedback. Most of the time we don't even know if they read the answers to their questions.

Maybe we should revive the "Thanks for the help" threads, but I don't think that would make a big jump in the feedback. The people who do give us feedback will continue to do so and the "hit and run" guys will continue to run.

Recently I have been getting some thanks via PMs, which I appreciate immensely, but more important is description of the solution in the thread.

If every poster that Tashasdaddy helped posted thanks it would probably paralyze the server. :)

Re: Repair forum deserters

With all the stuff I've learned from the O/B repair forums since I first became a memeber....I've had no need to post or go research a problem. If I haven't done it before......Thanks to all that have posted and replied to with solutions to the problems !! !

TD must have years and years of experience.I dont think I have seen a question yet he hasnt helped someone with. And that is priceless! Not taking anything away from all of the other guys in here that really know whats up.I find myself reading as much as I can on this board. So much to learn.Have not seen one reply to a post that someone made the question asker seem stupid.I cant say how happy I am to have found this forumn and all of you! Thanks for doing what you do!

Re: Repair forum deserters

I too have been getting more thanks via PM. Kinda strange. I think I may have accidentally deserted a couple threads, as I have always been against redundant posts, except when it is more of a joke to do so (mindless post padding) here on the dock. Also, some times, it takes a few days for me to get a chance to view my post, and by then, it is on the bottom of the page, and I don't like bumping it up. But, I can assure you I got the info. Some though, the ones that have 1 or 2 posts, I never can tell if they find the info, and when you ask them for more info, they never respond, so I think that I originally wasted my time.

Re: Repair forum deserters

It gets to me a little bit when you take the time to explain a resolution to a problem and then the person doesn't follow-up. But thats ok, I search posts all the time looking for information. I try not to ask the same question if its been answered many times. All posts are of value, as I said I find the info I'm looking for by just using the search menu.
