1987 DT140, has anyone changed the waterpump? How hard is it and what procedure do you use?

Re: Suzuki waterpump

it is easy .... first, spray the bolts with deep penetrating oil and leave a while, then disconnect clutch rod. Then slowly turn bolts and take out ... and drop lower unit ..... replace impellar and put back together ......

Re: Suzuki waterpump

Check the small stainless plate aft of the water pump housing were the water pick-up tube goes into. Make sure the plate(#13,14,19 in the parts pic) is not bowed or warped. If so replace it and seal it with silicone as similar to the factory sealant.

Put the gear in neutral. Remove the bolt holding the small plastic V shaped cover plate located in front of the lower unit above the cavitation plate. You'll find the clutch lever shifting rod/eye bolt there after removing the cover plate. Remove the carter key that connects the upper shifting rod to lower rod. This disconnects the lower unit rod from the upper rod. Leave the adjustment setting on the rod as is, donot adjust the bolt .
Check here for a parts illustrated diagram of how the parts are connected.Click onto the pic of the parts diagram...then find your model/year and click on to view the parts.
