Re: 1957 Johnson 35

So, I finally got a hold of a compression tester tightened it in and gave a couple of "best effort" pulls. I don't own an actual motor stand so I improvised with a stable location to hang the motor but it's not very conducive to putting a leg up and giv'n 35 horses a good yank (the motor that is) anyway after several attempts on both cylinders I got only a miniscule reading. there is obviously pressure there.... Do I just need to give it more umph? Also, the dangling positive and negative starter cables proved to be too tempting for me and so I tried hooking up to a battery. I have two main cables and then two 14 guage wires, one black one yellow that I believed to be ignition leads. I hooked up the Neg cable, touched the positive and scared the unowhot out of myself. The starter is now engaged, but spins easily. Did I screw it up?:(
