Gee, you would think that lamps are made of solid gold the way they price them. All I want is a simple contemporary style lamp for the family room. Family room has Ash floor, Maple cabnets and Maple/Cherry combo end tables and coffee table.

The lighting stores online have prices right through the roof! I don't really want to pay $400, $300 or even $150 for a single end table lamp! Been to Walmart, JC Penney, Sears, Ikea, and every online site I can find.

I'm looking for this, or something like this for a reasonable price.

Any suggestions for a discount online lighting store?

Try ebay...... even if it's old you have the skill to re-build one...... or for some nice stuff look up Hubbardton Forge which is down the road from me.

eBay
Crate and Barrel
Pottery Barn
lightingdirect.com

I would call the lamp in your example somewhere between Art Deco and Craftsman.

Also just troll Google Image search for lamps.

If you have any Hobby Lobby stores where you live ,they often run lamps of several styles as many other of their different department items at 50% off frequently.Otherwise, places like Office Depot and the like may have a few contemporary style lamps at cheaper than some of the dept store prices.Worth a shot if you haven't already tried those.Second hand shops or flea markets are always an option as well if you like to save a few bucks.Lamps are generally in good condition used since they're not really a high wear item like most furniture.

I get most of from Bellacor online. Be sure to check the clearance sections of a lighting store. JC Penneys is having a storewide sale right now too.

My wife is a big fan of HomeGoods. Stock changes often so you have to go more than once if you are looking for something particular.

Send the wife/girlfriend. Give her $100. She'll come back with a lamp and two pairs of shoes and only spend the $100. Why beat yourself up about things you have no business doing in the first place..

Re: AAAAAAAAAAHHHH! Shopping for Lamps is driving me nuts!!!

I ran all around today looking for a suitable lamp. Picked up a pair from Lowes, but I think they will be returned.

Found the one I like online in Light Oak, which looks a lot like the Maple that all the cabinets are made from. So I guess I'll bite the bullet and order this one. Darned things are $109.91 each. Free shipping and no tax, so that helps.

I think they will look good in this room. To the right, out of view is a sectional, and it has two end tables, one is just visable. I think they will look nice. This room makeover was a lot of work, new floor, all the cabinets, 2 tons of split field stone for the fireplace, so I guess its not out of line to drop $200 on the lamps I want. The lamp metal parts are brushed nickel, same as the handles on the cabinets.

For those of you who remember the posts on the familyroom make over, I did finish the flush hearth. Ended up using a dark grey slate instead of the beige tiles, I thought it matched the field stone better. One of these days I'll get the final photos up on shareaproject.com

Next time try the second hand stores. You find what you like, bring it home, fix it up and everyone will wonder where you got the unique retro lamp at. You can tell them you found it on the web but you can't remember the site. There is no way I would pay that much for a lamp when there are yard/garage sales and second hand stores around. Look for some thing from the '50s or '60s and people will notice them right off.....ANIMAL :D P.S. You might find an antique.

We love dumpster diving too. A coat of Rust o leum, and a new shade, will actually make that nasty pink lamp into something that people comment on (in a good way) when they walk in. (PS, I am serious)

Got some nice furniture from dumpsters too, as well as a perfect condition bimini top, from the dump. Legally, you cant sift through the dumpsters, but you have to be discreet.;)
