I sure would like to do my best to please the grandkids this year. However I know it is going to be hard to buy only USA or Canadian made items. This is my ultimate goal this year.

I thought maybe posting a topic to help list toys that are American/Canadian made toys.

Etch-A-Sketch, made in Ohio
Step 2, I know there is a small plant in Perrysville Ohio
Little Tykes ,has some factories in the US. Was one in Ohio not sure where they move to.

Any support and help will be appreaciated......Thanks......SS

if you have a local craft or farmer's market, you can probably find all kinds of quality, handmade toys, and support a local craftsperson at the same time.

when I google american made toys, I find a lot of hits, inlcuding "http://www.stillmadeinusa.com/toysngames.html" and "http://www.fatbraintoys.com/specials/made_in_america.cfm"

also found this article:

While made in Europe, playmobil toys were a huge hit with my kids for years. They are plastic, but quality made and durable.

It is interesting to see this issue spreading out into "mainstream" america. My wife and I worked hard for years to keep the cheap chinese crap out of our house, and relatives scorned our efforts and frequently would deliberately lay the cheap crap on us just to prove some kind of point. We used to be told that we were somehow depriving our kids by not buying them all the popular toys. Now suddenly everyone is concerned about this issue, and looking for solutions.

Good luck with your shopping season. I think you will learn that you can find a wide selction of toys not made in china, and it will probably make chirstmas shopping that much more interesting and fun.

Get 'em a Daisy. Not particularly safe, but every kid needs one and made in the USA.

My sister in law works for Milton Bradley{Hasbro} I know for a fact so much products are made in China they were able to dump a 60k square foot plant and close it because all the work went to China. I can tell you all the Hasbro brand puzzles are still made here...........

ok...I'll go out quickly on a limb here with a few quick ideas. There are a few hockey sticks out there....definitely Canadian made...as well I think a few of the major league bats (or ball?) are from the Canadian side.
On a the musical side...try Sabian or Zildjian (spelling?) drum set symbols...from the maritime provinces (just of north of Maine/Vermont, etc). On the other hand...these may be a bit out of reach of the ol' Christmas gift type of giving...a bit pricy maybe.
There are more but I'm quickly wading in a 'winging' it from a Canadian angle. I'll see if I can up with a more recognizable 'staples'.

Ive always found if you go to toy stores that specialize in learning toys have the best supply of North American made toys. Also Mom and Pop stores seem to have more localy made stuff.
My bigest problem is my son and i can spend hours looking at all the cool new toys out there. Boy do those kids ever have way cooler toys now days than when i was a kid.

Don't know age or sex of kids, but when my son was around 10, got him 100 b.f. of 1"x8", 10# of nails, a saw and a hammer. Says now it was the best Christmas he can remember. He's 32 now

I know Lionel trains used to be US made however I believe they now do the manufacturing over in the Pacific Rim somewhere. There are however other scale trains that are made in the US. One of the is Bollinger Edgerly. I haven't really seen them, nor any model trains in the last 15 years or so, to comment on the quality though. As a youngster though my trains offered hours of entertainment.

As for the hockey sticks mentioned earlier. Be careful many of them are now sending their lower end productions overseas. Hespeller is one brand that has not although the lower end there still isn't cheap.

Lionel,MTH,Atlas, and William's Train's are all made in China. Nothing is made in the US. A couple of weeks ago I attend a train show at the old A.C. Gilbert factory in New Haven Ct, the home of American Flyer trains.

We just has my nephews birthday and every single toy was made in China, except a plastic three wheel trike made in USA.

My major concern is the trade deficit with China, so I dont care where it is made, as long as it isnt China. Are Legos still made in Europe?

I know for a fact they are made overseas Lego's North American Distabution Facilities were here in town but after getting major tax breaks from the state and town they build a state of the art facilities and closed it after 3 years and left. I talked to my sister in law who works at Milton Bradley and the only made in the US item left is puzzles. It's surprising thinking of all the games they make..............

But, you WILL buy a chinese car, boat or engine, etc., in a heartbeat, if you think you'll save a few bucks. TRUST ME, you will. We Americans have changed. We want it cheap. Be damned where it was conceived, built, or whee the money goes. We're fools.

We're slowly regressing to service only society. Meaning: we make nothing, we invent nothing, we only-serve.

well, most probably will I guess, but I actually make a pretty serious effort to keep cheap chinese junk out of my life. Every now and then, it creeps in anyway, but I have never been a lowest-price-only based shopper, especially when it comes to equipment and machinery. My woodshop is all old American iron, my hand tools are mostly Snap-On, etc etc...
