Hi, my trailer came factory equiped with Reliable Sure Lube hubs with drum brakes. I have an issue with grease slinging out around the hubs and splattering the rims with grease, I found both of the plastic grease caps have cracked, is there any reason why I couldn't just replace the plastic caps with bearing buddys which are stainless steel and have that spring in them? I just can't find the correct sure lube caps anywhere locally where as the bearing buddy caps are everywhere.

You should with no problem.
Better anyway.
Just a shot or two and your good to go.
Just remember not to over grease the bearing buddies as they can and will push the rear seal out of the hub.

Remove the zerk fittings before you install the Bearing Buddies...

Why remove the zerk fittings??? The Surelube expels the grease out the back side of the torsion arm.

You don't state your trailer manufacturer but I'd bet if you contacted Prestige Trailers (618- 542-8313) and talked to Bobby in the parts department, he could fix you up with what you need.

How will grease get in when you pump up the bearing buddy with the zerk installed?

The Surelube cap will have to be totally removed before the Bearing Buddy can be installed, so removing the zerk is not an issue.

I'll stick by my initial thoughts and say contact the trailer manufacturer or Prestige Trailers at (618) 542-8313 for a replacement Surelube cap. Prestige has fantastic customer service.

With the grease fitting in, the grease will travel just as it would on an older or plain axle, with it out, the grease will travel both around the outside and through the axle if the system you have uses a hollow axle.

I have two types of integral lubed axle trailers here, one is a load rite which simply uses a plastic cap with a grease fitting, the other has a steel cap with a rubber plug in the center which you remove to access a grease fitting which is threaded into the center of the axle shaft. The Load Rite axle cover is very similar to the ones sold by CR Seals, only the CR version is clear.

All of my other trailers use normal bearing buddies or nothing at all.
