Re: Are there any musicians here?
You've got to be kidding! A place to talk boats and guitar!
1st guitar-Cheapee from Granny, at 5yrs old, didn't learn much but had a good time w/ sisters 8 track, KIZZ "Alive", Beatles "Greatest 196?-196?" tapes and my parents bed as my stage. God I wish my parents had video back then..or maybe not. A couple yrs later Sis brought home Van Halen I, same 'ol story that thousands if not millions of other guitar players tell.
2nd guitar-Dad drug out of grandparents attic and old Silvertone w/ amp in the case he had bought when in the service. Played that thing for several yrs.
3rd- Junior High, parents bought me a cheap off brand job, was a little easier to play than the Silvertone but not a great sounding guitar.
4th-Finnaly a guy moves to my small town who was a pretty decent player, where I got my first real lessons and he gave me a Squire Strat "very small step forward", and Peavey amp for doing a few odd jobs for him. He was a patient guy that taught me some good stuff.
I hope I'm not killin you guys with this long post, but.......
At 18 I lost my right arm in an accident, yes sad but not that bad, it made me more determined to prove myself at first to others but as its turns out it was more to myself to do or at least try anything I wanted to do. Picked up my guitar and started hacking.
5th- Visiting my girlfriend in college finally bought a good instr., Yamaha RGZ, good sound good action. Which really helped my ability to play, from there I got the equipment bug...another Yamaha, a Ibanez, 5150 Half Stack, numerous effects, and finnaly about 9 yrs ago bought a real class A instr. in a Peavey Wolgang Special Flametop...not the export that came later yrs.
I'm still a hack but I seem to learn more all the time, I keep 'em close, one by the couch and the rest downstairs w/ the good stuff. I miss being able to round out a note or give the full dimension of the chord w/ the strum of the open strings, and maybe a little of the finger taping and harmonic from the right hand but I still have alot fun w/ it.
Sorry for the long post, guess I got excited seeing a guitar/ musician post in my favorite boat forum.
