I have seen boats in the past where you have to have the "accessory" switch turned on before running other things controlled from the dash (live well, bilge pump, etc.

Is this the standard way they are wired? If so I assume someone has changed the wiring on my boat.

Re: wiring question

Mine is wired so the bilge pump, horn and nav lights are hot all the time. Acc only controls addons like the stereo, inside lights, etc.

Re: wiring question

Thanks, that makes me feel better about it. I was afraid someone had been screwing with the wiring.

Re: wiring question

I'm glad mine is wired that way and would probably have rewired it if everything had been to the acc switch. This way if I leave it in the water over a weekend I know the bilge pump is on just in case, can hit the horn no matter the key or switch settings, and when sitting in a cove fishing I can turn on the nav lights without having everything else on. :)

Re: wiring question

Yep, mine is the same way.
Bilge, nav lights are hot all the time.
acc is for the interior lights, and lights in the rod boxes and livewells.
My livewells are hot all the time as well although I can turn the timers on them.

Re: wiring question

There are different reasons and different labels to go with MASTER and ACCESSORY switches. A master switch is just that -- it kills everything so you don't inadvertently leave anything on. An automatic bilge pump gets wired directly to the battery so it is not affected. On the other hand, an ACCESSORY switch(es) can be wired in virtually any manner. In fact my 2008 pontoon has four ACCESSORY switches -- each of which controls a separate function and they have nothing to do with serving as a master.
