Im so upset I got to vent and share something that just cost me 230 bucks for nothing. Story is the wife went to replace our kids cell phone at verizon and they offered her a deal where she could get another cell phone FOR THE SAME COST as the 2 she has now. She asked the clerk if the charges would continue the same ($ 89.00) an month and she was told several times yes. she said ok and signed for the new phone with her agreement to exstend the service for another 24 months. Two weeks late I open the bill and ITS OVER 150 BUCKS. I said no way and for her to return this so called free phone and keep the service she had for the 2 phones. VERIZON said sorry ,to return the phone before the "contract is up" will cost you 175 bucks in addition to the inflated 150 one month charge. The SOB clerk lied and mislead her into the deal and now Im out about 230 dollers. I deplore VERIZON and I am sure she will never sign a contract without my approval again.. I RAISED HELL and said,,,"merry xmas"

You need to be talking with the manger and if no satifaction there go the the Verizon Service centers/company itself. The people who sell the phones and contracts will tell you what ever it takes to get a signature on the dotted line and collect thier $200+ commision.

Re: Beware of VERIZON

I have several bad things to say about verizon. I decided to go to verizon after a couple of other services, at the time I was dating this one girl, she talked me into getting her a phone also. I was making decent money so I got her the phone. There service didn't work well at all, my now ex-girlfriend and I took a trip to north Carolina and it worked better up there then it did for me at my home town in Alabama. Somehow the bill got ran up to 1800 dollars and this was on my 2nd bill if not on my 1st bill. I don't know if this girl I was seeing ran the bill up or what. I eventually paid the bill that was reduced to $1000 to clear it up, but it hurt my credit.
My niece recently had her verizon phone stolen that she just got for her birthday a couple of months ago, it was stolen at a retail store, verizon didn't want to help track the phone down for nothing. She doesn't have the detailed billing so they wouldn't help her with that either. She had the phone cut off, got a new updated phone through verizon because they are still under contract. The retail store didn't have security cameras unfortunately. If I'm not mistaken when they had the phone cut off she took and put her old number (off the stolen phone) and had it put on her new phone or something along that line. This lead to her getting calls from the thief's friends, they figure that the person named is a employee at the retail store were the phone was stolen.
I wasn't 100% satisfied with verizon's services, I went back to the original pre paid cell phone service I have had for years T-mobile that use to be Powertell if I'm not mistaken. I have used cingular in the past also.
My mother wasn't satisfied with verizon when she had it so she had the contract voided with in a certain time frame and she went back to cingular.
My father has T-mobile now.
If I'm not mistaken other companies give you detailed billing free, verizon wants to charge you.
They claim to have great service, and claim they have service in our area but they don't, they suck.

Re: Beware of VERIZON

I have alltell and have had for years with no complaints.
My new updated flip phone has the camera deal in it and internet ready so I can send pictures and stuff online.
It's pretty cool and has service anywhere with no roaming charges.
That's on 3 phones I have.

all the cell phone companys are criminals in my view. i'm with alltel. w/o a contract. it expired. when my phone breaks now, i just go buy one a whatever they cost. that way the plan stays the same. for me, w/o contract. that way i can tell them what to do with their service when i feel so inclined.......

Re: Beware of VERIZON

I just want to let everybody know that if you truly have a cell phone "only for emergencies", then buy the cheapest phone you can and don't activate it. By law, it must be able to make a 911 call anywhere service is available, even if service to the phone has been deactivated or never activated.

I had an old Nokia phone from 2001 that works fine. The contract died in 2003 and the phone is still in my truck, charging away every time I go somewhere, and the only number it can call is 911. I tried it, it works. And the phone doesn't cost me a dime! No roaming, no long distance, nothing! Absolutely free!

BTW, thank you for the good information on Verizon and Alltel.

Re: Beware of VERIZON

I have "The New AT&T" and my story is similar. Went to add another phone and the salesman told me everything I wanted to hear. I signed the contract to extend for 2 years, get the 3 new, updated phones, and was on my way. Had difficulty getting the service started, but then all was well until I got the first bill - it wasn't $85 after tax, as I was lead to believe, but $132! Big difference! I called and got no where. Went back to the store and the salesperson was on vacation.

Talked to the manager who told me that NO ONE in their store would have ever told me anything like that! I informed her I would not have ordered it if I was told it was what it was! Asked her to activate my old service and I would go back to it, which she told me since it was analog she could not do.

She did work with me, though, and at the end of the day I had a better plan than before and a monthly bill of $92. I was not happy that I was lied to, but was happy that I got everything I wanted and a little more for about what I was willing to pay going in the first time.

Re: Beware of VERIZON

Uhhhh this may sound strange but I live in the least friendly cell phone state. Coverage is terrible because "cell phone towers will ruin the pretty mountains...." Grrrrrrrrr I hate people who are anti progress and anti safety!!!

Aspeck will vouch for the poor coverage.

Now verizon is the best service for cell coverage in this area. I have had them for years and really do not have any complaints..... then again I only have 2 cell phones.

You have 2 choices unicel or verizon so it's pick your poison here.

i-phones do not work around here and are not sold here.

Up here in the hills of the tristates NY, Pa, & NJ, My wife's been using a pre-paid Trac phone for yrs from the get go, because T-mobile don't work up here, even though it's cheaper. We don't live on the phone, so don't consider it a necessity, it is only for a convenience, and helpful when traveling, or in case of emergency. In fact, I don't have my own phone (I'm probably the only guy in North America without one) but I just consider it an annoyance anyway.

Re: Beware of VERIZON

I've got Verizon and it is big in this part of Ohio. Most if not all my friends have it. That makes it nice since there is no charge between Verizon users.

Crooks work in many different places and cause problems for any company. I had several phones that had insurance on them. After much abuse of the phones, the insurance company quit honoring my claims. I did find out that there is an OOP's program that will let you get another phone for $100 without changing the contract.

We have 3 phones on our plan. Our one daughter that went astray, we shut her phone off. To have the number and plan changed would have cost about $200. With having the phone deactivated or suspended service, no charge was added.

With diesel fuel way the he** up in price, many places are going to skyrocket their prices.

Sorry to hear your bad luck with Verizon.

Re: Beware of VERIZON

MikDee,

I also live in Milford (Sunrise Lake) and find Verizon works well, even at the top of the mountain I live on.

However, we just got scammed by Verizon when trying to get the "Family and Friends" plan.

Aside form that, we like the service.

Re: Beware of VERIZON

When we got our first cell phone, one of our requirements was non-roaming service both in SW Michigan for our home but also NW lower peninsula by the lake place. The biggies (Sprint, Verizon, etc) don't have service if you're more than a few miles away from the interstates.

We've had Alltel the whole time, and they seem pretty good. Even when we got a new phone 2 years ago, I signed a new 2-year contract (the original one had expired a couple years before that). BUT we could keep our original calling plan, even though it hasn't been offered for at least 5 years. Next June I might get a new phone and sign another 2-year contract, but for now I'm with Alltel.

Re: Beware of VERIZON

Being a technical support manager I dont have to pay for cellphone as the company provides me with communications so I am available 24/7. However, the new company does not belive in being on call, so that migth kill my little deal. I have both the company phone and my family phones ( wife and daugther) with Cingular, now ATT wireless. I worked for Bellsouth before it became ATT so I also get a good discount. My only problem is that my Blackberry sucks, but that is the unit, not the service.

Re: Beware of VERIZON

Yes they left a bad taste in my mouth to. Radio Shacks salesman promised me I could get a Oklahoma phone number even though I bought the phone in Colorado. NOT!!! Folks had to call me long distance while setting in the same room and they were the only reason I got it to begin with. I quit paying the bill at $170 a month when it was susposed to stay at $45 a month. They tried to sue me for $370 {early term fee $200}. I told them they broke the contract when I couldn't get the local number I was promised at the time of sale and if they want to drop the $200 early term fee I would talk about paying the $170. Have heard from them since......ANIMAL :D P.S. Kept the phone for 911.
