Makes me wonder about those Tundra commercials.

He/She obviously flunked physics class also. Especially the part about "an object in motion tends to stay in motion."

Oh my god, the end of an SUV:D:D:D

With trailers, always fix the boat aft!

Since the winch strap is still attached to the bow eye, I'll bet it was routed "over" the bow stop and not "under" it hence helping the launch attempt.

Gary -- print this picture and then shown it to the next person that asks. And then tell them that's why stern tie downs are also necessary.

Good idea!
I know at the launch ramp at least half of the people do not have a safety chain.I watch them pull boats out and never hook the strap or anything to the boat.I always ask myself are people that stupid?
These are pretty steep ramps too...

I agree. I have a buddy that just throws a strap over the back of the boat, and ties it down. I am like your asking for it, lol. Hes been lucky so far.

I always have my straps hooked on the back of my boat, unless its sitting for winter storage in the yard. Before I leave, they are attached and everything else is checked. They also get reaplaced as soon as they start to look bad.

This last time I replaced them with the Retractable ones with large bolts, and rated at 3500lbs each, the boat only weighs 2900 alone, so I should be safe.

At 70mph, hitting a pole or other stationary object would overwhelm most all stern straps. And bow straps whether under or over the stop. And a collision is what did this guy in, not anything to do with braking.
So I'll say, if your brakes are a telephone pole, or a tractor trailer parked in front of you, then yes, that's too much stopping power!

Nothing to do with braking?? It looks to me like he rear ended something. That could point to a lack of braking power, no?

Anyway, that looks like it would buff out... ;)
