Maybe it is those Maine monkeys.

Got a bumper crop of pecans this year. I have about 50 trees. Squirrels and crows are getting their share, deer are eating some, but. . .

I have been picking up the big Stewarts because they are my favorites. Have about 50 gallons so far with many more yet to fall. I have been storing them in a big, covered tub on my front porch. The tub is full, so for the past few days I have been leaving that days harvest in a 5 gallon bucket on the porch.

A couple of days ago I left a nearly full bucket on the porch and went to do other chores. When I went out the next day the bucket was almost empty. I guessed one of my neighbors had taken them. I have invited them all to come pick up what they want, so it didn't bug me (much).

Left another 5 gallons on the porch yesterday. Took a handfull of them to eat last night. The bucket was still full. This morning the bucket is almost empty again.

RATZAKRATZA!!

No clues. No footprints or car tracks; no debris. Mice couldn't get into the bucket, then out again.

Any ideas?

JB, it is either raccoons or you get up in the middle of the night, shell the pecans, store them and then forget about it....

Got any place you can leave the bucket in a sandy area to trace the footsteps.... no footsteps would indicate a flock of birds or aliens.... then you blame Lester's friends.

An alarm would wake you and by the time you get there.... the critter may have fled....

Caught him. Big Norway Brown rat.

It is amazing what a .45 ACP will do to a rat.
