Is Mercury and Marriner the same other than cosmatic changes?, if so, why does Marriner exist?

Same reason there's Johnsons and Evinrudes....it's all about the color.

More then color. .010 to .030, or .001 to .005 + or - .001 or .0005 or .0002 + or - .0001=.0002 tolerance in the marching of some parts. I have worked in .00005 + or - 0 at 72 degrees on some parts! A good machinist can confirm my facts. Sad to say but some parts are still out of speck today.

So are you saying Mariner is not built as well as Mercury?, are they built at diffrent locations?

I don't wish this to turn into a name bashing is the main point I want to make first of all. Mercy. has gone through a lot of changes and improvements over the years. I would have no problem having either motor and I have but the new and improved always goes to the name brand first after proven to be consumer ready. Please don't read more into my post then was intended. Care and maintenance is first and foremost just like a auto motor. Now if we where talking about Force Motors I would stick my neck out maybe. That's all I will say about this thread.
