Cool, since I never used seacast I had no idea if a chemical bonding could be created after curing. That is good news. It will give you some time to work on something else until you get the next shipping of seacast. Good luck.

There won't be much area below the floor in you boat, so even if you get it as low as possible, it will only be a couple of inches below the water line, so just raise it up a little. This way unless you have the pump on it's dry inside, the vertical tube inside that goes to the drain needs to be removable so when you pull it out it empties. My live well tends to be used as dry storage most of the time, so to keep someone from flipping the pump switch on by accident, I pull out the fuse. Depending on the type of fishing you do, it may be used all the time though. in a small boat a live well can take up a great deal of room, so try to make it into a seat base or something like that.

I know exactly what you mean... and the cost just keeps growing, too. I think the post at the top of this forum needs to be updates to say "take your highest imaginable estimate and multiply it by 20, and that's what you'll spend the first year." :D

Today will be the first time in a long time that I've done any grinding or sanding on it. Strangely I'm kinda looking forward to it... 'cause that's progress, you know? If I get enough time, I might even finish preping the bow for the coat of thin cloth, as well as reinforcing the bow eye and drilling a second hole for the new bow eye.

smallest engine ive ever seen with a helm setup was a 28 Evinrude on my friends old 16' Swan Point center console
i would go with a 35 to a 40 horse on a boat that size

I've seen some johnson 25's, but ultimately I think I'll go with anything up to a 75 that's a good deal. I've been keeping an eye out for a decent one. I missed one in craigslist a month ago. It was a 60hp with the full controls and steering for $685. Not too bad considering that I will need all that other stuff, too.

Well so much for starting on the deck this last weekend. I didn't even finish with half of the cup holders.

The two up front are giving me fits. Mostly because I just don't have the right tools. See, I need to shave about 1/8th inch of glass from the inside of the hull (or about 1/2 the thickness of the hull in that area) for them to fit in place there (boy am I glad I didn't get the thicker ones), and I've been trying to use a metal file in place of my broken dremmel. Of course a file on a flat surface doesn't work well. Anyway, I'm MOST of the way there with one of them, but I havn't even started on the other one yet.

Oh, I also ordered the two rod holders for the back of the boat today. They should be here in about a week and a half. I odered the ones that are at a 30 degree angle, and plan to angle them straight back, but now I'm wondering if 30 degrees was too much angled straight back. I'm wondering if I should have gone with 15 degree holders instead. Only time will tell I guess.

Re: What am I about to get myself into?

Another update... I'm having "fun" today... working up front and working on finishing off the bow. Here's wetting out some roving...

AAA2.jpg

It needs another layer, maybe 2 to be strong enough... even then I'm going to brace it a bit from underneath. That will be my main storage area for life vests, etc, so it'll need to hold a bit of weight, and right now it's really a flimsy bit of glass.

Anyway, here's the cup holders, one in and one out. under them and down inside the gunwales is some floatation foam. It shouldn't ever be necessary, but should the time come, and all the under deck foam fails, there will still be something keeping me afloat.

Oh yeah, almost done, and isn't it beautiful?

I've got like 1 more layer of mat to put down on the bottom there and maybe a layer of cloth, then I'm DONE with the inside of the bow. Man I have actually had a blast doing this. This is what I needed. Every time I looked at the unfinished transom, it brought me down, but this... this is the pick me up I needed.

Oh yeah, and the bow eye... yeah there's like 7 layers of roven woving there... might even add a bit of that mat when I get around to laying that down tomorrow. One thing is for sure, it ain't goin anywhere once it's finished.

Re: What am I about to get myself into?

how much is it going to weigh??? Man sounds like a heavy boat! Im goinng to put a layer or 2 of matt but not so much! that is going to weigh too much in my opinion.

Re: What am I about to get myself into?

Re: What am I about to get myself into?

It shouldn't be too bad on weight.

I only used a gallon of resin up front there, and the roven woving is only the 18oz, and the cloth is only 6oz (which I didn't put on except in just a couple places where there were cracks or holes in the floor/deck like thing (it's really kinda a sub-deck). Also, the majority of it only has one coat of the roven woving. The only part that has more is that triangular floor section, and it has 3 coats for strength, and just behind the bow eye has 7 coats cris-crossed for superior strength behind the bow eye.

When I get home, I'm going to start sanding it to get it ready to paint. I can't wait to get it painted... that's going to look so awesome once it's painted! Man I had forgotten how much fun working on the boat was. That unfinished transom really was dragging me down. Working elsewhere and getting this much done at once is just the pick-me up I needed.

Re: What am I about to get myself into?

Re: What am I about to get myself into?

sarg once the prep is done it starts going quite quickly....

the back breaking work of ripping out and grinding are replaced by a pair of sizzors and a resin roller.

when you finally get down to carpet and uph (depending on how good you want to do it) it can be re done in a day....
so every little bit of progress is a big picker upper
