Valve on Evinrude???

On the side of my "92 40 hp Evinrude engine there is a red pointer with a schrader (sp?) valve in the center. the pointer will only turn about a half a round before it hits a stop. ... Does anyone know what it is?. ....... What does it do??. ..... THANKS!. ....... ted

That is the fuel primer solenoid. It is electrically operated when you push in on the key switch for cold starting. When activated, it shoots a stream of fuel into the cylinders. The red knob should be parallel to the valve body for normal operation. It would be turned to use it manually for cold starting if the electrical system or the solenoid would fail. The schrader valve is for fogging the engine for storage.

does the same thing the old choke did, but in a better and different way.
