Re: Any Pontoon owners here?

I think it will clean up nice.
I'm going to Advance to see if the Eagle one is on sale here...;)

Gary, it's not just on sale they're closing out the Eagle One Etching mag wheel cleaner in our local stores. And if it does a great job i'll be hunting it else where when they run dry.

Thanks Steelespike, I've got to pick up a fuel line and a set of muffs before I can fire it off. If there is a problem I guess it'll show up on the water if not in the yard. I'm planning on an impeller transplant & tuneup before dropping it in the lake just as a precaution.

Well I tried the Eagle One on a test spot under the deck on the inside of the pontoon today. Maybe I was in to much of a rush and rinsed it off to soon it did cut some crud but I was expecting better results.I may just be impatient as in I wanted to see the results yesterday.lol I'll have a little more time over the weekend and will give a fair shake time wise.

i have a 89 48 spl, great motor. it is the same motor and parts as the 50hp, just without the automatic oil mix. you have to premix your fuel and oil 50-1.

Thanx for the info tashasdaddy I've been reading up on this 48 and for the most part seams as though folks have a good to excellent opinion of them. When I bought this ole gal it was so cheap I din't even try to start the engine. Well today I pulled out the muffs put in some fresh fuel and the starter didn't spin it two full turns and she was running. I let her idle for about 5 minutes and seams to run very smooth. Shut her down hit the switch and presto not even a half turn she was running again.

Ok, the EAGLE ONE works if you give it a little time to do it's job. Makes the toons look great when get them all done I'll post some pics.

Head to a Heating and A/C supply house and pick up a gallon of Brite-Alum. It's made to clean indoor A/C coils and will clean the aluminum toot sweet. It has the same ingredients as the Mag wheel cleaner, only concentrated. It only costs about $13.00 bucks a gallon and will clean the toon many times when diluted to about a 4:1 mix with water. Just paint it on using an old paint brush starting at the bottom of the log and rinse off after a minute or so. Done it many times and you will be pleased with the results. It takes on a whitish cast for a bit, then reverts to looking like natural aluminum in no time. Follow up with Sharkhide and it will stay looking good for a couple of years minimum...

Thanks, we are planning most weekends on a lake and there are a lot of choices near here. The Eagle One worked great till it ran out then I finished it off with diluted muratic acid seam to be the same as the Eagle One. lol

Re: Any Pontoon owners here?

UPDATE: it's been nearly 2 years from the start of this project! The pontoon now has new seats, carpet, running lights and a newly rebuilt console. The 48 spl Evinrude is great and easy on fuel (much to my surprise) I've had it in several lakes and I'm as happy with it as I would be a brand new one.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys, I found lots of answers without asking any questions (search).:D

Re: Any Pontoon owners here?

I just bought a pontoon in March 2009, have kept it in the water. I didnt have a problem with the toons until it got warmer with this brown foul smelling stuff on them and a burnt-in water line. My boat stays on Lake Texoma on the Oklahoma side. I pressured sprayed most of the brown stuff off but you can see the stains. Definately see a difference in the toons from the part that was in the water versus what was out. Through this thread and others I have heard about Sharkhide and Muriatic Acid. Which is better? Do you dilute the acid? Once applied with a garden sprayer how long to live it on before you spray off? Should you scrub it? Thank you for you help
