Went to run the engine for storage and wasnt picking up any water. I cant seem to nali down the correct impeller parts as Im sure thats the problem. Its a 2003 searay 240 sundeck with 5.0 (260 HP) MPI engine with standard cooling system. Boat has 90 hrs on it and Im wondering if I should have done this sooner..not including the current problem. If I can get a part # that would help..Thanks..Im actually looking for the whole kit, not just impeller

Others may disagree, but serpentine belts last a long time in a boat (and on a car too!). Mine is 10 years old with 760 hours. But my pulleys aren't rusted or anything like that. If your belt is really cracked or wearing off on an edge, then replace it, and check the alignment of the pulleys. Other than that, I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: 2003 searay 5.0 mpi seawater pump

The impeller you list is for the wrong kind of pump. Your pump should be the new style brass pump which uses Impeller #47-862232A 2 also be sure to replace the oring seal around the impeller. It's thin and prone to suck air. It's PN 25-841807
As far as the belt, you will need more information. There are 6 different choices. Depends on Drive type, closed or raw water cooling, where the PS is mounted and/or if it has power steering.
Assuming you have Bravo Drive, Power Steering, and standard cooling, you need belt #57-865615003

If the belt is showing signs of wear, check the pulleys. Boats around salt water may have rust on the pulleys that can cause damage to the belts. And at almost 100 bucks for the belt, you might want to keep the rust off the pulleys.

Since you have your SN's, you can look up your own parts for that SN by going to Mercs Pars Express at "http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com/PartsExpress/HomePage/homepage.asp?CID=174165188072224063273" (remove " " marks)
Then to Parts for Mercury Marine Products and follow the prompts.

Its not Brass, Its the plastic one..That Im sure of as Ive been down there already and was looking at it. my belt is the one you say so thats ok, but the pump is plastic..100% on that. I think Im just gonna pull it and go from there. I will post back my findings

Re: 2003 searay 5.0 mpi seawater pump

I stand corrected DON and I apologize to you...I just pulled it off and it is brass..But its black. Took it apart and the only replaceable parts are an o ring...not round and rubber impeller. Pulled out the impeller and really didnt find much wrond with it except 2 of the tabs on it had slight tears at the edge so now Im wondering if its thermostat. Yesterday as I was running it and It started heating up I unscrewed the Blue drain plug/screw at the top on the thermostat housing and it just blew steam..If the pump was operating shouldnt water have come flying out because it is on that side that the water hose is connected? Im not sure if water would be up there before or after the thermostat opens. It looks similar to the picture but the rear stops before parts 1 , 18, 19....That I dont have. The hoses connect like that but without the other parts I stated.

Re: 2003 searay 5.0 mpi seawater pump

You are describing a dead impeller. The cracked vanes and vanes that will not straighten out all reduce the output of the pump.
Replace the impeller (and oring, I gave you the PN before) and then check it out.
Use some liquid dish soap when you put the impeller back in. It makes it easier to install and lubes the impeller a bit when you start it.

Ayuh,.........

And,...... You're Lucky........
Because All the pieces are still intact,.......
You won't have to go searching for the Broken Pieces......
Also,......
Look for any scoring, or scarring of the Housing's End-plates.......

Re: 2003 searay 5.0 mpi seawater pump

Pulled the impeller and its permanently bent, with a few of the vanes cracked ..along the length....I know Im very lucky it didnt break into pieces. Poped out thermostat and that opened in hot water but I have 2 of them so Im replacing that also, I think I'll buy 2 of them for convienience....Thanks alot for the help. Just a thought now.....all water is outta system so freezing isnt a problem...Would you shrink wrap before making repairs as its empty now?

Are you saying the Whole Powerplant has been Totally drained,..........
Or it's just drained far enough to access the parts we're talking about..........

If Everything is Totally Drained,........
It doesn't really matter whether you do the repairs Now,......... Or in the Spring.......

Re: 2003 searay 5.0 mpi seawater pump

Thermostats out, Seawater pump is out, 2 or 3 hoses are off and all the Blue drain Plugs are out so at its lowest point now no water is left...I may pour some of the winterizer into the block via thermostat opening and see if it pushes out anymore water.
