I'm gettin' bored..

Same view every day. Thinkin' of selling my house, buying a nice boat, and puttering around the lake full time, check into a marina every week or so for provisioning, then back out to the next anchorage.

Is this a dumb idea? Do they have this all regulated? Will they throw me in jail? Am I being stoopid here?

In just a lake? Seems like that would get old too. Now if you were to do this along the coast....

Where are you located? That would make a lot of difference.

I gotta agree about the lake thing getting old real quick. A river, or the coastal waterway would be cool. Like JB sez, it will make a big diff on where you are at. Around here the water gets solid during the winter months.

we have about 30 boats moored in one of the tributaries, that is line on one side with marinas, and condos, behind them is a mall. most of the 30 are permanent residence. one does her grocery shopping in a kayak.

There are lots of people around hear that live on there boat year around. Every time i go up in a plane to go off to somewhere i see boats moored in some cove somewhere. There a communities of them in some locations. Kinda like RV parks. But i live on the north end of the inside passage of Vancouver Island and there is endless places to go.

It sounds like a pretty cool idea to me. I've always thought about how cool it would be to live in a nice houseboat or something when I retire.

I'm in California, but I'm thinkin' of a big inland lake such as Ouchita in Arkansas. Looks like a real pretty place. Coastal cruising would be nice, but less protected and would require much more in the way of a boat.

Sea of Cortez would be a great compromise.. but one of the goals is to escape California's 9.3% income tax, so I need to establish residence in another state before moving to someplace like Mexico.. otherwise, CA will continue to tax my income!!!
