Do you think the people involved with this should be tried for murder? What do you think about this?

Murder? Get real! She died by her own hand. The world is not responsible for your actions, only you are. If there is any "blame" to go around then it belongs to her parents for not monitoring her actions. It was stated that she was not 14 when she started posting as was required by the website. It reminds me of the thief sueing the homeowner because he fell and broke his leg charging "that it was not safe for my occupation!"

And people wonder what is going wrong with our nation...

What a sad situation for that girls family. Murder? I don't think so. Mean people, yes.

Was it murder? NO

Was it cruel? YES

These type of stories are always sad and seem so senceless. Why can't we just all get along? :(

that law that they passed won't help anyone, only make lawers richer and more criminals out of mean people.

That girl needed help, not a law. I feel bad for the family, real bad.

Re: What do you guys think? Murder?

Tough question.......I got into a heated debate over this last year, but I'll voice my opinion again - and remember, it's only my opinion.......
All Internet sites are revenue-driven, even this one. We have the use of this great forum because of iboats' advertising base - simple economics.
The quandary is that while forums geared towards adults, such as iboats, are well run and HIGHLY moderated, forums geared towards pre-teens and teens are not - anything goes. It seems the younger and therefor more vulnerable the target user is, the slacker the standards adhered to by the site - and the site can hide behind "freedom of speech" rights. Sites such as myspace are fully aware the more trash they let through, the more traffic they'll generate, thereby increasing the sites visits, and thus ad rates.
In my opinion, sites such as those have a moral and ethical obligation to HEAVILY moderate and control their forums' content. If they want to reap the financial benefits of advertising, and the sale of user profiles to advertisers and use tracking firms, from an unsuspecting and naive user base, than I feel the only way to rein in that type of site is to hold THE SITE legally responsible for that type of tragedy. After all, would it have happened if not for the uncontrolled forum provided by the site?

DISCLAIMER - Docknocker's opinion only!!

"A 'MATURE' woman and her daughter create a fake profile to Harass a 13yo girl on the net". And the parents of the girl who died were the irresponsible ones for not monitoring her actions on the internet, come on give me a break, This woman needs to get in front of a large mirror and take a long hard look at herself, she has a daughter of her own she should know better.

I think the woman and her family members who created and used the ficticous account directly contributed to the death of the daughter. Can't say if its a crime or civil.

Seems to me it was a vicious and evil prank and there should be civil recourse to recover damages and punish the pranksters.

The term, accountable for your own actions works on both sides of this deal.

Exactly! The young girl had some mental issues and her parents should have monitored her internet usage.
The other mother and daughter are also at fault for playing such a prank. They should be held accountable for their actions also.
Just a sad situation.

Precisely! Evil has no boundries. Criminal, probably not. Civil, yes.

This has been happening for thousands of years. The internet made it easier.

Give me a break.

No ONE knows what was in that girls head.

no one.

no one knows why she did it or what the cause was.

And, we are only hearing what the parents want us to hear ... about the daughter, her actions, thoughts, medical condition, and home life (parents).

Doesn't take away from the sickness of what that grown woman did. I just don't understand how someone over the age of about 16 could do something so twisted. To a child!

Murder? No. Probably not even a crime involved at all, but just awful, sick, incomprehensible behavior.
