While winterizing my '89 Phantom BowRider the other day, I found that the cousin I got it from had removed the p/s cooler and spliced the hydraulic lines together. Will this harm my p/s pump and steering cylinder by not having any cooling ?

Re: Dumb Question

Howdy,

It probably got pulled because it started leaking.

You should really should have one. If the power steering fluid gets hot enough it could cause seal failures in the actuator.

Re: Dumb Question

I have a related question. In general, are fluid coolers (PS, oil, etc) oil to water, or oil to air?

And remember, there are no stupid questions, only inquisitive idiots ;)

If it didn't need a cooler they wouldn't have put one on.;)

Re: Dumb Question

Not necessarily. Some boats did not come with PS coolers standard.

Then those didn't need it. If the engineers decided to put one on, then there was a reason. for example a smaller resivior could need more cooling. Just my two penny's.:)
