I have a 1978 90hp. Are there any later model trim motor assemblies that will work on this motor.

It would be a lot of work to convert from the older side mount trim systems to a factory trim system from a later motor. What you shoudl consider instead, is something like a CMC Tilt assembly. They are an economical, and very popular alternative.

Thanks AMD, this really helped me too!, I was going to try to convert my 78 trim unit to my 1000 1962, I am really going to have to look at it hard now , Thanks John

Hey Jcsercsa! I can't tell what you are tryin' ta do, but the 1978 90 power trim should fit the 1962 1000 or the other way around, (should be a "bolt up" job). If ya don't want yer 1978 trim, how much do ya want fer it, or is it shot? The factory stuff generally werks real well and maybe worth fixin' if it only needs brushes or solenoids. JR

Isn't this the opposite of the question you originally asked?

Re: 1978 90hp

HI all , thanks oldmercrule !!!!! It really is as simple as a bolt up???? With my luck lately??? lol She { the motor is sitting on saw horses right now } and the boat is in the garage , i just got to cutting out the first of the three stringers yesterday!! then its rebuilding time !!! yaaahoooooo , 1978 glastron sportster, So its going to be a month or so before I get to the motor , but i am really glad to hear , the only think i think with the tilt, is the hoses need to be replaced !! So that would really cool if it is a bolt up on the 1962 1000 TOWER OF POWER , lol and If I want to sell it I will let you know ! and sorry cwcfishstixdidnt want to take over your string !! THanks John

Wow. economical. Maybe. Of course, I paid less than that for my entire project boat. I thought about adding power tilt/trim, but i'm pretty sure i won't even begin to save that much in fuel over the next 1-2 years i plan to keep the boat.

Re: 1978 90hp

Adding trim and tilt has nothing to do with saving fuel. It's all about comfort and convenience. About being able to adjust the trim of the boat as the water conditions vary, or someone in the boat changes seat, or your course requires an adjustment and you're now approaching the sea with a different aspect. And all this without stopping the engine or even slowing down. One of the nicest things ever invented, power trim and tilt. :D:)

Yes I agree ACHRIS , I wasnt even thinking about saving gas, its all about the comfort, I ran it this last summer with out the trim on it and it was a big PAIN,and I hit the prop, put a nice chip in it !!! And with pulling the kids behind it , it will trim out better !!! John
