I have heard that there are some lakes around the country where 2 strokes are not allowed to operate. The E-Tec motors are said by some to be as clean running as most 4 stroke.
Does the same exclusion rule apply to the Evinrude E-Tec as is does to all other 2 strokes?

Re: Educate me

Why not call the cops?

If you happen to know where you'll be boating, why not contact the governing authority and ask what is permissible and what are their future plans on regulation, if they know?

There may be blanket regulations out or coming out that don't take into account how technologically adapt your 2 cycle is, just that it is a 2 cycle and they are prohibited kinda thing.

Calif. has the no 2 stroke law all over, but the etec i understand is allowed. they don't even allow 2 stoke lawn equipment. one of things you get when you live in a over populated area.

Re: Educate me

Some of the regulations refer to "carbureted" two strokes so in those cases an E-tec or DFI two stroke would be ok.

Google "California Air Resources Board" or just CARB.
The answers to most of your questions are on their site.
Sorry about not posting the link, but that is a trick I've yet to master.

Re: Educate me

Hell, why don't they ban carburated four stroke engines?

Sorry, I get a little ruffled by the greeny message and over regulation everywhere. Its often taken to extreem, and this is an example.

Carbon has yet to be proven to be a "greenhouse gas"

Re: Educate me

On Carbon, I read an interesting article several days ago (over on a farm tractor site), prepared by some 19,000 scientist's essays and other works of theirs, that have (and displayed) documented evidence contrary to the currently popular (Nobel Prized) theory being fed to the general public, with their research going back some 3000 years of the earth's life.

According to them (as indicated in their charts and dissertations) the rise in CO emissions has nothing to do with the normal cycling of the earth which alternates back and forth on a pretty cyclic basis. Additionally they discuss the positive effects of it on certain living things.

According to them the sun has a more profound effect on the earth's atmosphere/temperature than anything else. Well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to note the difference between summer heat and a winter blizzard and the sun definitely has a significant role in that; nor the difference in ambient temperature at 2PM and 2AM; especially in the desert.......what changed, CO2 emissions? Yeah right.

Problems we all have with governing agencies is that they make the rules that we have to live by, but they aren't necessarily the right answers, for varying reasons.

As I recall, back in the days of Jimmy Carter as US president, we were fed the same tale (by him in particular) about how we shouldn't continue to technologically advance with the energy consumptions associated with that and all. That's when I read the book "How to Survive the Coming Hard Times" (by Howard Ruff as I recall), whereby we moved to the country, dug a hole in the ground, and got ready for dooms day.........that was 30 years ago, no doom's day, and it looks like history is repeating it'self.

I guarantee you this, the technology that has gone into my automobile (and obviously most everything else since then) has produced a much more earth friendly vehicle.....so is it better to quit using fuels or to apply technology and do a better job of using them. I'll take the latter.

So which special interest group is to benefit this time?

Not that I don't think we need to be responsible for our environment. I just like being told the truth about anything, not lied to for some selfish (possibly misguided) reason.

My 2c since the topic was opened for discussion.

Be careful. This topic need not go political to answer the originators question.
