Twin Battery Installation

G'day from Down Under.

I'm installing a 2nd battery, to run my Lights, radio etc. But with the 2nd battery, it doesn't have it's own grooves in the boat for the battery to fit, to stop it from moving around. I'd rather not drill into the floor to secure the battery boxes. Any other idea's like strap's or anything.

I've thought of getting 2"x4" marine ply and making a frame for the battery box to fit, then fibreglassing over it, but that's abit of work. How's your battery box secured ?

Thanks Mack_187

Don't think so hard. Just screw it down. Most battery boxes come with a lid and strap to hold the lid down. Make sure you confirm there's nothing that could get damaged from the screws thru the deck.

With twin batteries you should also add a switch.

you didn't mention anything about your boat. if the screws can go thru the deck and not thru the hull, then it should be ok, as long as there is nothing under the deck, like wiring, to hit. another thing you could try is to get a battery tray, with the strap and epoxy it to the deck. the only problem is removal of the tray later.

No matter what box or tray you have, it must be secured to the floor to keep it from moving around. A battery tray is available that screws to the floor. Put the battery in a plastic battery box with a cover, set the unit on the tray and secure everything with the included strap. About $10.00 - $12.00 for the entire setup.

Perfect. A tray it is for both batteries. There are no wires etc under my floor. Marine ply and fibreglass. Didn't want to bolt the battery boxes down, but will bolt a tray in. I was thinking i'd have to make my own tray.

I'll have a search now for them.

Thanks alot.

Any department store that sells boating supplies has them. If you have a farm store in the area, try them. Or - right here on iBoats.
