Decided to replace my instruments with new white Faria and include water pressure to fill up hole, this gauge comes with threaded adapter that screws into hole in cylinder head, my engine is Evinrude 40 hp BE40ELCR which I dont think has this tapping, can I use T piece inside engine cowling on tell tale. thanks Lurcher

Yes -- a "T" fitting is provided with the gauge and it can be installed into the tell tale line. Here's a picture of how it looks on a Merc but the Evinrude will be very similar. Had one plumbed that way on my last Evinrude engine and it worked fine.

Thank you Silvertip, I was under the impression the Faria gauge came with t piece but not so only the brass connector, these are new set of instruments I had sent accross from USA which took 7 weeks? Will source T piece somewhere maybe auto shop for windscreen washers? Lurcher:eek:

You might have better luck in the plumbing department of a home improvement store. They have all sorts of plastic and metal fittings to fashion whatever you need.

That sounds good Silvertip, I think though that you are correct about the t piece coming with the kit, I seem to remember that I read that in magazine or on the web, instructions with instrument shows and mentions nowt about t piece, maybe modern engines all have this tapped part to take same and Faria have dropped it from kit. Thanks Silvertip Lurcher.

Re: Faria water pressure gauge.

Lurcher, I just installed a Faria Water Pressure Gauge on my 150HP Johnny. The Gauge came with a 1/4" NPT to hose barb fitting and nothing else. My Johnny had a plug in the head that was the correct size to accept this fitting. I hope your motor has one as well, as it makes it easier and more compact.

Re: Faria water pressure gauge.

I have never quite understood how the gauge gets a pressure reading fom a pipe that has an open end (the tell-tale) or is it that we are only interested in the pressure at WOT and there is enough restriction in the tell-tale outlet to create some back pressure in the line?
Thanks...W

Yes there is enough pressure there. The water pump should put out enough volume and pressure that easily overcomes the restriction of the small block drain. That is how you are reading pressure.

Re: Faria water pressure gauge.

Just because you open the faucet on your house does not mean water pressure drops to zero. On an outboard there is far more water going through the engine and out the exhaust than through the telltale. In the "big picture" the telltale is just a pin hole in the water system.

So do we have 3 outlets for water, exhaust, pee-hole, and exhaust relief port on upper leg? Lurcher
